My husband just bought an Xterra 4x4 off road. We would be interested in trails to go off roading in the Mojave Desert. We also have an Itasca Sunrise and love to camp. We live in the Central Valley

My wife hasn't been camping in the desert yet! We purchased a toy hauler last October and we've been out a few times already. We have other friends that go camping often.

Most of my trips are east on hwy. 395 just south of Ridgecrest. The guys ride quads and camp. The ladies want to go, but most havent gone yet! With with the TH I'm sure they will go very soon.

This part of the desert has so many off road areas to enjoy. You have dry lakes, hills, washes, great canyons etc. Just be ready for the winds, they can blow.

We're taking a trip at the end of the month to Death Valley. Alway's wanted to see it. Can't wait!

I'm from Chino! Where is the Central Valley?

My father who is in his late 70's has taken me all through out the area between Baker and Barstow; particularly Afton Canyon and Zyzzx Canyon. There is some great geology to see in Afton and you can actually see where the Santa Ana river goes underground. There is a BLM campground that with pit toilets and running water. It will set you back a whoppin $6 per night (save up). There are trails leading out of the campground that take you along the railroad tracks out to what remains of the old Afton train station and grave yard from the 20's.

Big Fun!

We worked in the Mojave desert for 6 mos. There is so much to see if you really like the desert! It is not all low desert. Go to the headquarters and get info and maps. The Spring is very nice but the winds can blow, so go with proper clothing and lots of water. We are planning a trip back out West soon, hope to get to Death Valley. Make sure you check out all the Ghost Towns and old mines!
