I have a 2002 Dutch Star. When my wife used the washer, I had the gray water drain closed off. Instead of the water going into the holding tank, it ran down into the basement. I know the sewer is susposed to be left open when using the washer, but memory lapse occured----again. Any ideas as to why the water drained into the basement and not on the ground? I don't condone draining the water onto the ground, but it would have been better than draining it into all the stored stuff in the basement. Richa

Water always takes the easyest path.:(
One of the first thing I do once the sewer is hooked up is to open both grey tanks. It's amazing how fast they fill up.

You said you had the gray water valve open and are suppose to open the black water (sewer valve ) also. That does not make sense to me since they are not connected except at the outlet.
If the washer drained into the compartments and the valve was open it is possible that the drain from the washer is not even hooked up or broken. Check the back of the washer and verify that the drain hose is connected.
If it is the next thing you need to do is verify which tank the washer drains into. Close both valves and put a small amount of water in the washer. Put it on spin and go out and open the gray water valve. If there is water coming out then it is piped there. Which it should be.
The only place water should come up when the tanks are full and the valves are closed are the shower (low point) or the toilet (black water). If you are getting water in the compartment you have a leak in the system which is not a good thing for sure.
You should only have your sewer valve open when you are actually draining and flushing the tank. It should never be left open!!
Good luck.
