Hi I love the Smoky Mountains & I want to hike to the top of Mt.LeConte & spend the night up there, went half way with children a few years ago. Anyone who's been to the top and stayed the night there please give any and all advice, it's on my list of one of my 'things to do in life'.

Hi , my name is Ron and my wife and I have been to the top 3 times. The experience is Awsome , you must do it.
It took us a yr. to get reservations for the following yr.
The food was the healthyist we had in a long time. If you have a guitar take it with you. At night everybody sits around the fire place and talks ,listings to music. sleeping quarters are unbelievable.
My wife and her brother and his wife made the trip UP three times. We took the longest trail there was, 9.5 miles UP . What a hike. Loved every minute it.

My dream is to do the Appalachian Trail, all the way. My wife can follow along with the motor home and meet me at highway intersections for an occasional shower, fun, sleep and a good meal. Not sure though if I could then boast as a true thru trailer. That’s not easy to say, kind of a tongue twister.

Hi, yes I missed the chance for reservations but they say to call in October for the next year but by November they are usually booked so I will call next October for the following summer. Kinda excited about it! However this summer we will take the Alum Bluff Trail and go just to there and picnic and see how we do. I was wondering about the mice/rats, someone said they keep you up --ohe well.. Thanks for the info -- if we ever make it up there I'll post again :)
Jpm10 -- that sounds like a GREAT PLAN, and idea you have, you ought to go for it, and if you do, post back -- YEH YOU CAN STILL BOAST AS A TRUE THRU TRAILER-- you would still be hiking the whole trail and seeing and experiencing it all. Good luck and I hope you do it oneday!!

Just came back from the smokies and went hiking on the alum cave bluff trail to the bluffs and it was a great trail.
total 4.6 miles I believe, but we picnicked on a big rock 'inspiration point' and the views were beautiful and the girls played in the creek on the way back down. If in Tn and want to do a nature hike this is a great one! Its in an old growth forest with beautiful views, creek and an interesting amazing bluff. Go during the weekdays would be best. We did, less people on the trail then
