My wife & I are both from RI originally. I was from North Scituate and She was From Chepachet. I joined the Navy in 1951 and after boot camp and school I got stationed at Quonset Point until 1954. We got married and our honeymoon was the trip to my new duty station at Glenview, Illinois. We lived in quite a few places during my Navy career including Oahu, Hawaii and Midway Island. In 1961 we were transferred to Jacksonville Florida, bought a house in 1962 and have been here ever since except for two years in Georgia as my last tour before I retired from the Navy in 1970. I guess you could almost consider us native Floridians after almost 46 years.

I have used it for many years on yahoo. I used Timothy when I first joined RV.net back in the early 90s. Guess I just wasn't that creative, and I'm not trying to hide from anyone....at least not yet!!!
Four years to retirement on my clock but DW says I have to wait 6 until my youngest daughter is out of school!
I can't even imagine what traveling without the kids will be like, I get lonely just thinking about it.

Earl, don't know if we'll ever be fulltiming but we certainly will travel more. We like the idea of having a home base to come to, wouldn't have to be much and not sure where it would be at this time. We still have some time left to think about it, the girls are 10 and 13 so they keep us pretty busy with school activities right now. I can retire from state service when I reach 55 and I'm 51 now, Cindy is 42 and thinks I'll just keep working until she is able to retire, LOL. NOT!!
I want to have a couple of years to swing my metal detector and golf club and visit with some of my family and friends that I haven't seen in years. Do a little volunteer work at the church and maybe even try RV sales just for fun!
Do you Jan plan on fulltiming, or just in the planning stage of your retirement years?
earljan34
03-04-2007, 05:37 AM
No I think at most part timing I like the idea of having a home base, House is paid for so not a big deal we are in the process of selling some rental property so we will have a little more time to travel just hope everything works out. Wife was a school teacher and I owned small businesses through the years sold them all and started driving truck locally for the last 7 years but health but a stop to that! Am now trying to re start a small business I had a few years ago three days a week Tue-Thurs this give me something to do and freedom to camp.

Just wanted to say HELLO! I just joined this site and hope to make new friends who enjoy camping as much as DH and I do. We just upgraded to a new travel trailer yesterday ( won't go pick up trailer though for 2 weeks). I am all kinds of excited to start camping this season. Hope the weather breaks early in Ohio this year. I got alittle fed up with camping in our small 22 ft trailer. Now we have room to spread our arms so we should enjoy it more. -- Michele

My husband retired 5 years ago and wanted me to move to Ft. Lauderdale and I said "How about RVing"? I have been a camper since 2 wks old and he never camped before. But camping has changed over the years LOL. So we bought a RV and haven't looked back. In fact my husband now says he wouldn't take a house even if someone gave us one and the first year we did this he would go around saying "I Love My Life".
We love it!!

Hi Bob and Betty
I have been in Jacksonville from 1961. Moved to Green Cove Springs in 1971.
We have been camping when ever both of us could get off work at the same time. I am retired, but my wife is still working. So we go camping when ever she can get a few days off. Hope to run into you around the state some time. My rig has the wolf on the spare tire.

Hi--just joined my RV space and am already getting lots of ideas for campgrounds, etc. We're pretty new to camping too and just bought a large 40' Itasca quad. I hear it's hard to get these larger vehicles in some state parks. Are private campgrounds better? Also, we have 3 dogs--does that pose a problem? When you travel for any length of time--4 weeks or longer, how do you get your mail? Hope to make lots of new friends this year. Thanks for any advice.

Hi everyone
Just signed up tonight and thought I'd introduce myself.
We are originally from Illinois. We've been Full-timing for 6 years and are currently in Florida where our Daughter lives. Our summers are usually spent traveling to see our other kids, (which are scattered from coast to coast), or spending time in the Midwest where we still have other family and friends.

Well, while were on new members. Just joined tonight and don't normally chat but looking to get involved with other RVers who enjoy camping as much as my wife and I do. Also thought it might be a good way to get some new info on campgrounds and places and things to do. We have been campers for many years and just bought our first travel trailer about a year ago. We are also about to get into ATVing as a form of recreation. We are not the retired RV type and still like to be active.

IMHO, PPA is much less of a "scam" than the Camping World program is, as ppa has more affiliated campgrounds! But of course that won't help you if none of those campgrounds is where you are. Truthfully, the "value" of most camping membership programs varies with each member, and comes down to making sure you will want to camp in areas where that particular program has campgrounds. "Most" of the RV Parks (actually, we aren't "camping," and don't think of the places we go as "campgrounds.") we go to around the country don't take PPA, Happy Camper, or whatever Camping World calls their new program, particularly for the 2 week to 1 month stays we normally do. But we did join ppa last Fall when staying 4-5 days at a county fairground that was ppa. We made our membership fee back that first week, and have more than tripled it since then in one or two stays in other RV parks. Whether or not it is worth it to YOU will depend on where you travel.
sunny

I signed up for Passport America recently, but haven't my membership to camp yet. HOWEVER, I did look up campgrounds in Florida and called about a dozen to ask questions about their parks and using PPA discounts. Every one I spoke with said they welcome PPA and were happy to book the reservations. A few have holiday blackouts, but overall it appears to me PPA is good for me here in Florida.

I can't believe I couldn't find anybody from Montana. We're Sandie and Jim from Billings. Not full timing yet - but soon. And everytime I visit a site like this, that time gets sooner and sooner.

I'm from the country and I like it that way. You guessed it, Tracy Bird sings it, my theme song. There's only two kinds of people... those from the country and those that wish they were. Yes, we know how to work and we know how to play! LOL ;o)
makay, I noticed you are new here too. Just curious, where are you located? Are you fulltiming?

Hello all from Oregon. Been rv'ing for about 8 years, going from a rental "C". to a 39' triple slide diesel pusher, that we aquired last year, and are enjoying. Spend the winters, (6 mos.) in S. Cal. Probably full time in a couple of years. Both retired about 10 years. USMC Korean vet, wife was a school teacher.
Very enjoyable site, always fun to hear from folks who share your interests. Surprised that there are not more posts from the NW. There are a lot of RV'ers out here.
Keep the shiny side up, Bill and Colleen

Hello all,
We're Toby and Laine from Las Vegas, NV. We've been RVing for about 31 years, starting after a PARTICULARLY WET, rainy week in a tent, in Virginia! :) Started with travel trailer, bigger travel trailer, 32 ft motor home, truck camper, 36 foot motor home, 211 TrailLite B+, and now, happy as clams in a RoadTrek 190 Popular. We love this little rig, so easy to park, drive, and "hide out" in our DRIVEWAY.......just right for our present lifestyle.
Anyway, it's fun to read about everyone's trips and rigs. I don't think we'll ever full time, as DH has many interests, but I'd like to, so I love reading about your experiences.
We travel with three Bichons....................lots of fun!

Hi Earl,
My wife Betty and I are both from Rhode Island originally, but have not lived there since our wedding in 1954. We camped there at Holiday Acres for two weeks this summer as part of our trip. We both have some relatives that still live there. We live in Orange Park Florida now.

I've been camping most of my life, but just graduated to a class c, 1987 Ford Freedom 29Ft, from a tent. Got a sweet deal on this unit that is like new, been garaged and well cared for by the previous owners and had less than 43,000 on it when I got it in April. I've put about 1000 to 1500 miles on it with mostly short trips this summer and lots of local Ohio State Park Camping. Took it to the Navy v Notre Dame game this past weekend in South Bend, In. Every thing works on it like new. Had a great time. Will be going to Memphis for Thanksgiving. I currently live in Ohio between Cincinnati and Dayton. Been Ohio bound since 1987. Originally from Pensacola, Florida. Noticed Rarah also from P'cola, My family still lives all over Pensacola and Mobile. I was born there and visit 3 times yearly but havent lived there since 78. Looking forward to a trip to Yellowstone/Mt Rushmore this summer with my 70 yr old parents and two girls 15 and 7. My husband is a workaholic and travels infrequently with us but enjoys it when he can. I usually take my two kids as well as 2 to 3 others with me on a trip. We've had lots of fun this summer and past weekend.

First welcome to the forum.
As far as mail is concerned, you have several choices, you can have the USMail ser. forward your mail to where ever your going to be a few days. You can have a friend or family member pickup your mail and forward it you.
You can also get a mail box at a mail forwarding service (UPS store, etc. etc.) and have them forward your mail to you. Any way you go it will cost shipping/forwarding cost to have it sent to you.

We have been RVing for about 17 years now, and planned to full-time last year. However, it was delayed for a year, and now we are set to go as of June 1.
Be safe on the road, and hope to see you there.:)
