The new Diesel Honda's are coming for 2009. They will have automatic transmissions at least a five speed perhaps a six speed. The US specification diesels will meet the California emissions standards which are the highest standards and thus they become legal in all 50 states. The June 2007 emissions conference in California had an exibit from Honda. It was the Diesel Accord with a European 2.0 Liter Diesel modified to California emmision standards. It is rated (using the new rating sysyem) at 52 HWY. The new Accord diesel is replacing the Accord hybrid which will no longer be made in US. The Special emissions Accord is being shown at dealers accross the country and is currently in Colorado making it's way East. The transmissions for the American Specification diesels for the Accord,CRV,Ridgeline, and Pilot are being built in Georgia. Nothing yet has been said about them being factory ready for towing as the gasoline engine and transmission set ups were in the past. Hopefully they will be towable, as anyone with an older model Honda (that they tow), may want to move up to the new diesels for the 25 to 30% better MPG's than the gasoline engines of the past. The CRV diesel model will get between 36 and 40 MPG on ULSDiesel. Even at 47 cents higher cost than gasoline at the pumps, the high MPG vehicles will save you 7.5 cents per mile, and polute less due to the same emissions as a gasoline engine but with more miles per gallon. So soon you can have a ULSD HIGH MPG TOAD or a UHMTOAD!

I can't understand why all the manufacturer's haven't jumped on diesel like the Europeans. If we all had diesels the price of diesel would be comparable to gas. LOWER.

Diesels were made unpopular because of the GM scams in the 70's.
In addition they are noisey and smelly compared to gasoline engines. They do provide better mileage, MUCH greater torgue and somewhat less maintenance. They do cost more to produce and purchase. I love them and hope more manufacturers offer them to us in the GREAT USA! I have read that Subaru and Honda will soon offer passenger diesels.

Dont bet on it. When cars were big cuz of lower diesel prices they were sold all over the US like hotcakes, remember mercedes and volkswagen and chevy chevete to name a few? Unless the diesel gets 75 mpg with the cost of diesel its still not equal with the cars that get 35 to 45 mpg on gas and there are a lot of them. My 92 Toyota Camry get 35. My friends metro gets 45 and my daughters metro gets 60. Diesels also cost more to do maintenance repairs and oil changes on. Not worth the price in the long run.

The new diesels are quiet and the increased mileage does justfy the difference in the cost of diesel vs gas fuel. I get 23.5 miles/gal with my 3/4 ton pickup, 11.5 towing. I just talked to a man that tows the same size 5th Wheel I do with a V-10 and he gets 7 miles/gal towing and about 13 empty.

One of the main reasons diesels didn't make it bigger in the U.S. was the dirty diesel fuel we had prior to 2007. Most of the Eurpeon cars couldn't even run on it. Now with the clean diesel (low sulfer) fuel here, we will experience more diesel cars that get 55/60 miles/gal. Think hybrid diesel/electric.

All 3 big U.S. pickup manufacturer's are going to offer 1/2 ton diesels with-in 2years.

Bottom Line: Diesel engines last 2 to 3 times longer than gas. With the cost of fuel now, how many new cars are you going to be buying at $30,000 to $40,000 a pop. The diesel will last much longer. Much more cost effective.

Yesterday morning the today show had a bunch of hybrid gas rigs on there that are getting 45 to 65 mpg and all were less than 20 grand with the lowest at 3. Never heard of a diesel hybrid. Have to check into that one. Oh and the hybrid chevy tahoe which can tow was 20 to 25 mpg. And there is a new car out there I understand that one can order that gets 100 mpg. Cost like 40 grand. And, and they said that pickup truck and Suv sales both diesel and gas were in the toilet on today and on news lately. Say they cant give them away so guess one can buy one for dimes and nickles. This morning they said it is wise to keep them dont sell them right now. You will loose your butt cuz they have no value.

We get news from LA and New York, on one of the LA news channels a couple of weeks ago a car dealer had them diesels, trucks and SUV's advertised to buy one get one free. LOL Blew my mind. Wife said she could not believe it either.
