I have a 2004 motorhome that would occasionally overheat. After three years, a service bulletin released stated the problem.
C7 engines installed in RV's,(unlike semis), are installed in a tilted position, which requires a different dip stick than the semis. Unfortunately, the same dip stick was used in both vehicles. The RVs oil capacity is suppose to be 4 quarts less, but because the incorrect dip stick was used, there were 4 quarts too many. This caused the excessive oil to be forced out the blow by tube, (and in my case), coating my towed vehicle with oil. It also covered the fins on my radiator, restricting the airflow and overheating the engine.
To remedy the problem, the radiator had to be removed and cleaned. The oil in the RV had to be refilled to the proper level, and the dip stick had to be recalibrated.
If you are the owner of a motorhome with a C7 Cat engine you just might find this information helpful.
