Can anyone provide details on cost and real life usage for the usual washer / dryer combos that are in motorhomes. I hear that they wash ok ..... I want to know how well they dry.

Thanks,
Chris and Carole

:) We have the Splended 2000 and love it. We use it every day as we are fultimers. Drying time varies, as on a 30amp site it can take 1 1/2 to 2 hours on a 50 amp site it usually dries in under 1 hour

To bad they don't come 220v, they would dry in half the time.

We had one in our fifth wheel and loved it. It's nice to start the wash and then forget it until the buzzer goes off. Now we have a stackable and I love it even more because I can do a load of wash while the first load is drying. The only thing that I found with the combo is that stuff wrinkles really bad. Other than that the washer got the clothes very clean and the dryer, while it takes a while usually, is great..... :)

Okay my two cents.... we also have a combo unit in our motor home. We wash small loads and then stop the washer before the drying cycle starts. We shake out the clothes as they tend to bind up during the wash cycle. Then replace them in the unit and start the drying cycle. Once the drying cycle is completed we remove the clothes and thus greatly reduces wrinkling. :)

We have the combo unit and have used it only once. It took me 3 days to get one load done! I definitely think it was operator error, but I just couldn't get the hang of how to set it to get it to run all the way thru. Once it FINALLY finished and dried I was afraid to try again. LOL

Although we have two separate units in our fifth wheel, I was told by someone in the know that to avoid wrinkles, one must take out the clothes between the wash and dry cycle and shake them out...and that the washer will wash a bigger load than the dryer can conveniently dry. Sounds like a hassle to me, but if it were my only choice, I'd certainly get one...just be sure you get a vented model.

A friend of ours has a combo and they used it once this season. He called a few nights ago and said he forgot to winterize it and asked if I thought it would be ok. I told him I have no clue but he will find out in the spring. :)

We bought the splendide combo last year and its served us ok. Wife does take out the heavier clothes and hangs them around the house to dry.

We have been fulltimers for 9 years, and have had a washer/dryer combo for nine years, and love it. Use it everyday! The only thing I could add to the other threads is that after I shake out the clothes and put them back in the dryer, I add dryer balls. They help dry the clothes faster.:)

Interesting add to my earlier comment here. I have been watching our power because we are on 30 amp right now instead of 50 and we have to pay for power. I found that my splendide combo only uses 4 amps washing and drying. My coffee pot uses 11 and my microwave 12. So its well below the average.

A while back I mentioned a friend who forgot to drain his. He headed south Sunday and dewinterized in Virginia, he was lucky, no leaks.
