I was hoping someone can recommend a campground. I keep searching and searching the internet and cannot seem to find what I want.

My husband and I live in east Tennessee and we are what they call "empty nesters". We have two dogs who are now are "children" so to speak. We chose camping because we can take them with us and they love it.

I am looking for a winter camping vacation and what I am looking for is a camp site on a beach by the ocean. I love to be able to look out the window and see the tide rolling in and to sleep with the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. But, I cannot seem to find what I am looking for. Any suggestions? I have found a few but they do not allow us to camp there because we have dogs. Our dogs are small and well behaved. In fact one of them never barks and we have had many people tell us that they would like to have him if we ever decided we don't want to keep him. Not a chance of that happening.

For dog lovers, you can view Murray and Junior on their site at Dogster.com

From TN, you have to go south which I'm sure you already figured out.

Try looking at the Destin area. THere is a nice campground called Henderson Beach State Park. It is smaller, alot of room in the sites. They are not full hookup but the place has some of the cleanest bathhouses I have seen. The campground is not right on the beach but there is a boardwalk to the beach. The park has about 6000 ft of private beach also so you could find a spot to look at the waves for sure. It is booked so this late you might have a problem. I would also suggest Top Sail State Park Campground also in the Destin area. Again, not right on the beach but a shuttle runs to carry you to the beach area. It is a bit farther east of Destin but a very nice campground. Top Sail is a bit more expensive. Both are Florida State Parks. Good luck on finding something. Oh yeah, I have stayed at Top Sail and it is pet friendlly for sure. I believe Henderson is also.

just came back from the outer banks of N.C. Great time. Was there between Chistmas an the new year. I do not normally do K.O.A's but this was ok. Hatteras KOA in Rodanthe. Yes to everything you want.

You have got to check out the Gulf State Regions of Alabama and Florida as previously mentioned. I am a bit prejudiced though since I grew up in that area and call it home even though I live in between Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio now. I visit that area 3 times yearly on minimum... love it ,love it, love it....warm water, white sands, good food, great people! Beautiful beaches...

If you want to be right on the beach there is a CG in Ft. Myers Beach called Red Coconut. They have sites right on the beach with sewers. Your front wheels will be on boards to keep them out of the sand. They allow dogs and the weather is a lot warmer than Destin, which is very nice but can be cold in the winter.

There are a couple on the East coast-Beverly Beach and Flagler Beach area.

There are a number in the Keys also.

Keep in mind that waterfront property is expensive so the site fees are a lot more than wooded sites to rent and very popular.

We will be at Red Coconut starting in late March through the beginning of May.

ENJOY!!!

Hi,
Check out www.gulfrv.com if you are interested in the Texas gulf coast. Extremely nice resort on the ocean.

Try Beverly Beach Campground in Flagler Beach which is just north of Daytona Beach, right on the ocean, front row of campers looks right out on the ocean, reasonable priced. dogs welcome. We have been there several times with our dog. No pool but right on the ocean

We also live in ET and just returned from a few days in the Keys. We are planning to go back for a couple of months next Winter and are thinking about Long Key State Park and perhaps Bahia Honda State Park. I think one can only stay two weeks without moving on IF there is a list of people waiting to get in so we would need to re-locate for a few days elsewhere (there were empty spots when we drove through). We stayed this time at The Jolly Roger CG in Marathon but we're talking about $75 a night which can add-up over a couple of months.
The Long Key park is right on the Atlantic and has W&E with nice restrooms. We did not check Bahia Honda. The Keys are very enjoyable and the weather was great. Enjoy,
Ralph and Donna

If you don't mind going as far down as the Florida Keys, one of our favorites is Curry Hammock SP down in Marathon Key. It is right on the water. They do have water and electric at each site but no sewer, but they do have a dump there which is real conveinent. I know they allow dogs. We are full-time so everywhere we go my baby goes with us.
If you go down there go to Big Pine Key and find the "No name Pub". The best pizza ever.....and they have dollar bills stapled all over the walls and ceiling. Great fun. Also the Key deer roam all over. They are only as big as a large dog.
