After 20 years of tents & pop-ups, the bones say "It's RV time!" We're looking at a (2008) Keystone Cougar 276RLS. Also, advice on a tow vehicle. Any opinions?

I Will Not Buy Another Keystone Product. I Have A 2007 Copper Canyon. The Front Cap Is Cracking Across The Top And The Manufactuerer Will Not Make It Good. Also The Dealer I Bought It From (harper Rv's In Poplarville Mississippi Will Not Stnd Behind The Products They Sell.

check out the keystone forum at www.keystone-camping.com I have a keystone Zeppelin that I love... but others have had trouble with it.
I would strongly suggest a diesel for that size of trailer... Personally I like my Chev d-max

We purchased our Cougar new and pull it with a 2003 Chevy 2500HD extended cab truck.
We have been traveling regularly since 2003 and have found it to be a good value for the money. We purchased ours from Dandy RV of Oxford, Alabama.
They have a huge operation with trained technicians and aim to please.
We would consider purchasing from them again should we ever wear this one out.
If you travel in the winter months, ask about the polar package.
Good luck on your decision.

Thanks, Connie Sue for your input. That is very helpful, as (as of the past hour) we are looking at a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD ext cab with a (diesel) Duramax engine. Does your Chevy have that too? What kind of mileage do you get? What model Cougar do you have? Did you buy it in 2003 too? Any problems? The Cougar we bought has the Polar Pkg on it.
Thanks!
Susan

I have the exact same trailer. Bought it new in April and a new F-150 with the 5.4 liter Triton V8.
I have 25 thousand miles on it and have been across the Rockies and all over the Appalachians, up hill down hill and around the corner and have had no problems with my tow vehicle.(or the trailer for that matter, I love it)
I have been through nights even weeks of single digit temptures and other than stopping often for propane have been comfortable. I have the polar package.
The only thing I would have done different would to have started RVing earlier in my retirement.

Hi,
We purchsed, (2/1/08) a new leftover 2007 fiver.
We have had NO problems with ours so far and we head out for our 4th
trip in it on 3/29 for drycamping in the Ocala Nat'l Forest.
We like ours so far and it doesn't need to go back to the dealer at all
for anything.;)
So far we have done lots of mods to it and hope to keep it for years and
years.:)
Our last trailer was a R-vision hybrid that we had for 4 years so we aren't ones to trade in every other year!
Good luck,
Jo

We take possession of our 33' 292RKS 2008 Cougar tomorrow. We had done about a year of looking around, asking and searching. This seemed to be the best value for the dollar. You can get some of the features in these, that are in a lot of high dollar trailers. We talked to a rep (he came across very honest) he told us up front that he was prejudice to his product, but told us what his did not have that others did. I am excited and look forward to the new adventures with our 5'vr. Look forward to meeting some of you out there on the road :)

I would not buy a Keystone product. My repair list on my brand new Laredo 315 with less than 2,500 miles on it is up to 20 and continues. Problems range from minor (loose fender screws) to major (broken counter top). Good luck with yours. I would recommend a diesel 3/4 ton vehicle as a tow machine. My GMC 2500HD (6.6 litre turbo) has proved a great truck as a tow vehicle. The only drawback is the rising cost of fuel. Wish my Laredo was as dependable.

We have an '05 Cougar 276 w/polar package. It is the "1/2 ton series." Just returned fron a 5000 mile trip. Only problem we encountered was 3 flat tires. It has "Mission" tires. I don't know who makes them, but I would suggest replacing with Goodyears. This is the first time in 20 years of towing that I have ever had a tire problem.
