Hello, all, Yesterday we went out to do the monthly check on the interior of the motorhome. We are not using it in the cold weather since there is no vacation time coming up. What we found was the toilet paper had been unrolled into the hallway and living room and there were acorns under the throw rug. Any suggestions to keeping suirrels and or mice out of the coach during the cold season? Hurry up summer!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

That's terrible news Donnabond! Have you determined how they are getting inside your motorhome yet? That might be the first thing to do. If you can seal up how they are getting inside you might be ahead of other more dramatic actions.
I have not had the problem myself but in talking to others, what they do is use rodent bait placed on top of the wheels. They say that keeps mice from munching on wires and other components that they can reach. Others have mentioned to rid squirrels they bait them with poison nuts. The caution that these need to be placed where other animals like pets don't get into them.
Good luck with your solution...whatever it may be.

You can use steel wool in any and all holes in the rv, they dont like climbing thru it, you can also buy those electric traps that will shock them if they do get in and kill them in the trap, if you go to a farmers store like IFA they have traps and bait that they get into but cannot get out and the poison will kill them. Lastly I have heard but cannot prove it, that you can put the dryer sheets in cabinets and such and they wont go in they dont like them. I hope I have have been of some help here.

We tried moth balls and the mice played with them. I think that is an old wives tale or they just dont make them like they used to.

The spray plastic foam (Great Stuff maybe?) in all cracks and crevices around any pipes or wires coming in from outside and any openings helps a lot with mice and bugs but I am not sure about squirrels.
I think traps are probably the best approach. Squirrels can be pretty destructive so I would think you need to do something that has a high probability of success.
One thing for sure dryer (Bounce ) sheets and the sonic repelers don't work for mice. We used to spend the summer in an RV park with a lot of seasonal folks and one spring a guy about four sites came over and said "You have to come see this". I went with him and he showed me a mouse nest built out of dryer sheets right next to the sonic repeller.

The destruction you described is not a squirrel as they are too big to get into RV unless you have a large hole someplace. More than likely it is a mouse or two.
Like previuosly stated you must plug up all holes from the outside where they may get in. The sticky mouse traps on the tires work very well. Inside my Rv I placed steel wool in holes from compartments to floor area such as where plumbing goes through the floor. Also put screening under all floor vents for heat.
I do have bounce sheets in most of the drawers and it seems to work fine. I also use electronic devices in RV and one outside. Seems to work I don't have any mice inside coach but once in awhile I get one in a sticky trap outside.
The final solution is too get a cat, LOL.:)

And... this coming from a guy named "Tom" LOL
I just found that funny...
As a comment, if you have squirrels getting into your motor home, you have a big hole somewhere that you need to fix. Even mice shouldn't be able to get in there. Ants maybe, they get in everywhere.

Last year we had soooooo many mice coming into the house I was beyond frustrated! A friend suggested we get several bars of origional Irish Spring soap. We took the soap and grated it up and put it into nylon socks and tied a knot in the stocking and put them into drawers and crawl spaces. I do not know if they got clean or exactly why they left us but this year, not one mouse.
No cat litter or loose hair. Still working on the ants!

I have used the Irish Spring Soap on my last 2 MH's and I have not had a mouse problem either. Will use it again on this newly acquired MH

I had squirrels in my garage last winter and I could get them out but it was impossible to keep them from coming back in when I opened the garage door. I finally ended up going to Lowes and buying a repellent called Critter Ridder and they haven't been back. You just place a small portion into a small bowl and the smell will drive them out. It took a few days to air our the garage though. Good luck!
