Heard today from a Monaco salesman that they have been informed that Country Coach is having problems and may follow the same road as National. Anyone know more details?

Country Coach handed pink slips to 8 percent of its work force because of deteriorating market conditions.

The manufacturer of high-end motor homes declined to say the exact number of workers losing their jobs. But based on the most recent company statements about the size of its work force, the layoff affects about 100 people.

Company spokesman Matt Howard told The Register Guard newspaper that Country Coach needs to ensure it has the right number of employees for the market.

"We look at the industry hopefully being at the bottom of the curve and being ready for a resurgence," he said.

The RV industry as a whole saw sales fall 17 percent in January, according to market watcher Statistical Surveys. Gasoline prices have hit record highs recently, likely hurting business. The home mortgage crisis also affects RV makers because many buyers rely on home equity to finance the purchase of a motor home.

Wow, National, TS, and now Country Coach! I think we are seeing a thinning of the herd here, only the strong will survive, and the rest will be history.

You will still have coverage on the engine, transmission and your appliances. I suppose that is better then a sharp stick in the eye.

Alpine Coaches are great units. I always said if I took the leap it would be to an Alpine. There is hope that someone will purchase WRV but in reality I kinda doubt it.:(

Well Monico closed their Indiana plants and laid off 1400 workers as well. A recent report reads that Class A Motorhomes are down 56% from last year and last year wasn't so good.

Went to the Gulfstream rally in June. they have cut production, and are working a 4day week. With all thier other enterprises they say they will weather the storm. They are using the slow time to organize and update their lines. It's a great line of coaches and new inovations.

I believe they will succeed!

Monaco salesman-----? Have a Country Coach and am in contact with many CC owners and dealers and have not really heard anything drastic being done by CC.
Layoffs???? Well is'nt everybody laying employees off because of the bad economy. When CC lays off a big % of their workforce then we might be able to say that CC is next in line of going down the tube. People that plunking down half a mil to 1 mil for a coach have the funds and really are not too concerned about the price of fuel.
No,wait a minute, have not heard of the gov't laying any congressmen or senators off. Yeah, the dems left town and would not vote on the moratorium on off shore drilling, but they are not concerned because they are getting their pockets stuffed with our gas money. Fellas---things are gonna get worse before they get better so batten down the hatches for the up coming rough ride.
