You haven't had a good biscuit until you have eaten a "Roped Biscuit"

Being a good ol' southern boy from the Carolinas, I make my home made biscuits about once a week in the summer time and two or three times a week in the winter....

and I always use the store brand self-rising flour... I'm cheap and it's cheaper.. :)

Because I make biscuits the southern way, I have to be extra careful about the ingredients I use..

For example, because southern biscuits are so very light and fluffy,.. I only use Daisey brand BB shot in the biscuit dough to keep the biscuits from floating up off the plate..

I remember one time when I was just a tadpole, about ten years old, I got to meet one of my favorite cowboy movie stars who was staying at our house that night... Gabby Hayes..

Well sir, I was so excited about meeting him that I forgot to put the BB shot into the dough..

When I opened the oven door to take them out.. they floated up off that pan and were just kinda hanging there in mid air until somebody opened the back door and the draft sucked those biscuits right out into the yard.

I'll never forget that day... watching Gabby Hayes running after those biscuits roping them out of the air and putting them in a gunny sack..

That night we ate "Roped Biscuits" and watermelon preserves for supper..

Gabby Hayes ended up being one of the greatest influences on the way I lived my life. I have always tried to do things the way he did.
