Wow just had a great time reading all the MI campers connect. How about campers in the Pacific NW.
I live the coast, the mountains and the mild hiking weather. I am planning to full time [give it a try for a year] so am gathering lots of info.
Sounds like many full timers from MI head to FL in the winter. Where so the PNW people go in the winter? AZ? CA? What are some good winter places on the west coast.
Thanks...

If license plates are any indicator, seems everyone in Wa. heads for AZ.
Areas like Lake Havasu, Parker, Quartzsite, Yuma, San Luis, Lukeville, Ajo, Why, Sells, Sasabe, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Bisbee, Douglas, Benson, Tucson, Casa Grande, Phoenix, are always full of Washington Lic. Plates in the winter.
Sometimes makes you wonder if there is anyone left in Wa.

Hi SeeYa...
I'm in Whatcom County - holding up the Canadian border.
I'll have to research Yuma. I am such a tree person - the dessert is nice, but I need trees as well. I understand there are parts of AZ that have trees... that would be nice!

You have to remember in AZ you are in the desert so you will not see the pine trees like WA, I see Palm trees ans other kinds of trees in my neighborhood but you will not find forests. What amazes me is seeing all the fruit trees here. Lemons, Oranges, Grapefruit galore!!
I belong to Thousand Trails so I'll be around Monroe, LaConner and visit family in the Tri-cities.

Seeya - I belong to 1000 Trails also - know La Connor well. My fave is Pacific City on the OR coast - the whole beach and very few people. Plus you can drive on it.
Ut - Where's N. Cascade Park where you will be?
Today was a gorgeous day so got the flower gardens in order and washed the car. But I would rather be RVing!!! hee hee My time will come.
Am adding you both to my friends list...
Have a good eve.

Not sure when I'll get over to LaConner, hope to go down the Oregon coast by Sept, some friends are going to Winchester Bay crabbing and I'll have my crab pots with me by then. Then slowly going back to AZ and be there in Oct in Yuma AZ.
Sure not ready to head North, hear it is still cold and nasty up yonder.

I recently heard in one of those factoid type things that Washington State has the most RV owners per capita than any other state in the USA. Sounds like it is true from this thread!

Alot of forest land up there with Parks every where and the campgrounds on the coast are nice. With the hectic city life alot get away for those weekends or Summer vacations either to the beaches or over to Eastern WA or up to the mountains. Most families have the smaller RV's so they fit great in the state parks. Those with bigger RV's usually go to Membership parks or those listed in Trailer Life . I just lost a fav park from a take over by the county so I'll spend more time parked at one of the Elks clubs.

What park was taken over by the county? How it wasn't one that I have on our list to visit one of these days.

The Thousand Trails park called Cascade ( Hwy 18 & I-90) county took it to build a new Hospital so Thousand Trails bought back the Grandy Creek property near Concrete WA to replace it. Bummer for all the campers near North Bend ,Issaquah, Fall City and Snoqualmie that used that park alot!! The park was packed all the time and soooo many day use people who lived close who would come over to use the pools. They had just made a whole bunch of improvements to the park. This was NOT expected!! Really sad to see it go. Thank goodness the Mexican grounds keepers who have given their heart and soul to the park for many years were relocated and most of the staff was relocated also.

I make my home base Hillsboro Oregon and will return there from a winter in NC next week.
Lots of places on the Oregon Coast for RV camping. My favorite places are between Lincoln City and Newport.
Lots of people winter on the Southern Oregon Coast where there is milder weather.
Next winter I hope to winter there or maybe AZ.
I will return to winter in NC for the 09 -- 10 winter.

Hi all: I am writing from Tampa, Fl. I am from Oregon, (born and raised). Great state, but don't like the weather. I have been wintering in S. Ca, for the last 5 years, in a park in Indio, Ca. about 20 miles East of Palm Sproings.
I stayed in a great park, and the winter weather is OK. But the culture is becoming very difficult to deal with. Very strong Hispanic envioronment. You know it's getting bad when you go into local businesses and they don't speak English, and make you feel uncomfortable for being there. Or you drive down the freeway, and the road signs are in Spanish. It makes you wonder if you are still in the USA.
I am full timing" in a 40 ft. motor home, and loving it. Getting ready to leave in about a month for a 2 month trip across the country, and through Alaska. As for Florida, it will become my new "base" I love it here, and recommend it to anyone looking for a place to "Winter". Ihas everything.

Just came back from Alaska, went up there the first week of June and crossed over into WA the 3rd week of Sept. It is AWESOME there!!
Pick up the Tour Saver book at Safeway or like me I ordered through Amazon.com was worth it for all the 2 for 1 sidetrips. Also make sure you get the MILEPOST.
Milepost was great for warnings on road conditions, animals and points of interests like where to find the largest cinnamon rolls( Braeburn Lodge)
Roads were pretty good and well marked for the frost heaves, some people thought they were bad but after driving in Mexico we thought they were good. Some areas are very dusty and gravel, just use common sense and go slow.
Try living in Yuma AZ, you have to be bilingual to get a job! I love it there sunshine every day!

Does that mean I can't get a job there. That sounds good to me. Should have moved there 30 years ago.:D

Just spent a few days on the Olympic Pennisula - took some nice little hikes at Dungeness Spit. It's a 5-mile spit that leads to a lighthouse. You can actually rent it weekly. Of course you have to haul all your supplies out five miles.
Posted a few pics.... enoy;)
