I am having a heck of a time finding a place to install a CB Radio. I am in Eastern Central NC and there is just nothing around here.
I have been on google until google is getting tired of me. :D
Questions.
Do truckers still use CB Radios?
I am looking for a good one for my F-150 that has all the wether channels as I am going to cross the country in 10 days on interstate 40. Tornado ally.

Yes, truckers still run CB's. I'm sure you know most truck stops sell CB radios and many of them have an installer close by. I've included a link to Best Buy for the Cobra Model 18 WXSTII. I have run this radio for 5 years and have had no problems. I added a Turner mike and I run a 250 amp kicker and talk anytime I want. You'll notice that this radio has 10 NOAA weather channels and another nice feature is the front mounted speaker. You can spend more money but don't know how much better you will like it. I hope this helps. Check it out, let me know what you think.

You do know that your 250 amp kicker is illegal don't you. You also run the chance of interference with any electronics in your coach. If the FCC catches you with a kicker on your CB the fine will make you cry something awful....Just for your info. Sometimes "Uncle Charlie" likes to ride thru truck stops and "visit" with people that they catch with a kicker.

Just yesterday I bought a Cobra at a local Love's truck stop. Bought the antenna as well. In my case we went with the cheaper Cobra as we see it more of a necessary nuisance. If we can hear two or three miles away that is fine, even gave it some thought as to not hook up the mic. Just get the road report.

I've been a ham operator and CB runner for 50 years. "Uncle Charlie", not true, he has been out of business for years, no money. Ham operators and ham radio clubs catch their own "bad guys" per se'. (I run a 250 amp kicker also, who's gonna tell?)

I would guess my moral compass would not let me break the law.
I am not near as interested in transmitting as I am in receiving. Weather alerts would be my big worry. Maybe I will just buy a high end weather radio.
Does that change your recomendations?

I have my CB radio mainly for wearher reports, needed information and emergencies. I'm not a ratchet jaw, most of the time my CB is in the NOAA weather mode. If needed though I can talk to a trucker, another RVer and most importantly I can talk to a State Trooper or Highway Patrol. Most of them monitor the CB and will answer up if you call them. It's nice to have the capability to report a drunk driver before he kills himself and/or someone else like you or me. I hope I've helped you.

The cobra model 29 has a built in swr meter that way when you match your antenna to the radio you wont have to buy an swr meter to match your antenna to your radio.

They all have an swr meter of some sort but the in line swr meter is far more accurate.

You write just get road report.
Are you talking about just listening to the other users or is there a channel for road reports?
