I love to travel and experience new things. Only problem being I like to be able to keep in contact with friends and family as well. I have read about some very expensive stuff to buy to keep connected but I am trying to stay "IN BUDGET".
Any suggestions or things you have tried?
Dishtv has worked well in the stick home but I would like the option of having the ol'dish. How about the cheap tripod type antenna and use compassto find the signal?

I'm not sure of your question, you start off with Internet and Dishtv, staying connected with friends and family, and then continue with asking questions about Dishtv only. Hopefully this will help answer your questions.
If your looking for satellite Dishtv service only, then a tri-pod and a dish will work just fine. Very cheap cost wise. {any where from free, to buying new from store for around $100 complete dish & tripod} Setup is simple using a compass and either the signal meter on the TV or a Sat. signal finder meter.
If your looking for satellite Internet and Dishtv combined then you are going to need a Internet satellite dish with a bow (bird on a wire) for receiving sat. tv. Cost will start around $1500 or so for a portable tri-pod system and go up from there for a roof mount system.
Now if you want internet access and sat. tv but not in a single setup package.
I would suggest looking into a "air-card" and tri-pod sat. dish for TV.
Cost for "air-card" will range from free to $200 depending upon service provider and contract {just like Cell Phones, free if you take what they offer for a contract time period} As I already mentioned a sat dish an tri-pod any where from free, to buying new from store for around $100 complete dish & tripod setup.
Monthly cost will be approx. the same for either a "air-card" or "internet sat." around $60 a month plus what ever you are presently paying for Dishtv.
Note: You can take a TV Sat. receiver from home and take it on the road with you so that you do not have to have (2) contracts and two monthly bills for TV.

When we got our coach, we also got an air card from Verizon.
On our recent trip to Utah, my DW was able to keep in touch via internet with her family as we traveled.
We are using a Veizon air card and it cost $59. per month.
We had it added to our cell phone bill.
So far as the tv is concerned, we have a "follow me" satellite unit installed and am disappointed as it didnt do as we were told it would.
It worked fine at home but did nothing on the road at all.

As a PS to my previous post, the reason the satellite didnt work on the road, we discovered, is because we had Dish service.
We changed to Direct and the DW was able to watch our home channels on our recent trip to Utah.
The satellite did as it was supposed to.

Glad to hear that you got every thing resolved. When the DW can't watch TV your not going to enjoy your self. Now you can go back to enjoying the RV an travelling.
