Does anybody here know what major construction is planned for this highway from the Canadian border down through Tennesee? I was just making plans for travelling this route lately and whenever I bring up Mapquest or Google mapping, they have a link to some American major reconstruction of this highway with detours noted all the way into 2009...With the price of gas these days, the last thing that I want is a tour through the countryside that will add another few hundred miles towing a trailer!

I know there is at least 11 miles of construction on the south bound side of I-75 in Ohio approximately at Monroe Ohio until West Chester Ohio. 2 lanes down at night and one during the day for construction...It runs slow during peak morning and evening hours but not too horrible of a delay...This area is about 30 minutes south of Dayton and just 15 miles North of Cincinnati. I was through 75 all the way from Ohio to Florida two weeks ago and there was some Tennessee area being worked on as well maybe near Jellico again lanes closed and delays but nothing backed up and not moving...Thats all I know about but you can check with each state on their individual State Patrol Web sites for construction

We came back in January and in Georgia north of Atlanta there was about 10 miles of backup. They were working on the south bound side.

Aww...yes...I do remember that there was construction in Atlanta almost downtown, went through there about 2am and was dosing in the passenger seat until I heard the jack hammerrring and smelled the fresh asphalt. Thanks for the reminder.

I-75 Southbound is completely closed from I-96 for about 10 miles. And you're right that it will be closed until 2009 (if we're lucky).

Having said that, there's another Interstate route you could take.
Come across at Sarnia and take I-94 (Westbound) to I-696 (Westbound). Stay on I-696 to I-275 (South). Stay on I-275 South to the end. It ends at I-75 just North of Monroe, Michigan. This way you bypass all the construction on I-75.

Good luck,

Bill B. (Michigan)
