My wife and I are going to be visiting Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada this summer and we were wondering if anyone could recommend a good RV Park in the Banff/lake Louise area. I have just retired and this will be a lifetime trip for us, looking for the best accomodations we can find. Anyone have any good tips? :p

summer is the busiest time for the parks around Banff/lake Louise and jasper..start now to make reservations..or you may be camped beside the road, which isn't bad at all..!If I find a website for them I will post..Dona

I probably should not jump in with this as it has been 5 years ago that I stayed at Banif. I found a pvt. park on the edge of town(west side, very reasonable price,no reservation), It was about a 10min walk to town. I can't recall the name of the place . ( sorry)

I am one of those folks who never plan trips ahead and just go for it, route determined by the flip of a coin and avaliable roads.

I was visiting at the end of July and had no problem locating a place to stay and it was an enjoyable trip except for crossing the border( ours and theirs). I expect it will be more difficult now days.
Good luck with your trip and
safe travels

Suggest you take a look at the R.V. Park in Canmore as a place to stay.

When we were in Banff we stayed at Tunnel Mountain. Nice big park with hook-ups.They had a shuttle that would pick you up from camp and take you into town.
In Jasper we always stay at Whistlers in the National Park. If lucky and make reservations you can get hook-ups. We stayed for a week without hook-ups and it was still wonderful. Elk roaming all over the park. We are 40' MH and had no problem with their sites. Nice drive to town. Take the tram up the mountain.
Icefields parkway is a beautiful drive and you can take a tour on top of the Athabasca Glacier....a must to do. "Columbia Ice Field Experience"
From Banff you can take a day drive to Lake Louise. Beautiful Lake with glaciers around it.
It is a beautiful trip and plenty of lakes and waterfalls to see. Try to get reservations, they do book for summer fast.

Thanks to all for their tips, had wonderful time, Banff & Lake Louise were just beautiful.
Four comments:
1- There is no littering in Canada, highways very clean. Both BC & Alberta have $2000 fine and they ENFORCE it. CA should take heed.
2- Everything is a little more expensive and money goes fast up there. Smallest bill is a $5, they have $1 & $2 coins called 'Loonies' and 'Toonies' :) that go back and forth across counters at the speed of light :D
3- Fuel is real expensive as well, $1.74/Litre ($6.75/Gal???) for diesel :(
4- Food is no great shakes, eat at White Spot when you can, reasonable and consistent. Do NOT eat elk or bison, you will be disappointed. Did not see any signs for moose, maybe they don't eat them.:D

Thanks for the Heads-Up on the high cost of diesel.

I remember living in Spokane, WA in 86-87 when I had my first motorhome. It was an 85 Holiday Rambler Imperial with a Chevy 454 that ran on BOTH gas and LP. We used to drive into canada and top off the LP as it was a LOT cheaper, even back in those days. The engine also ran better and cleaner than on gas.
