You can save about $4000 by not doing the piggy-back thing. Friends of ours are on there way there and are parking the RV and taking the train on a day trip, staying in a hotel and returning to the RV. The whole thing costs about $1000 and they get to see the same things.
Not to disparage your trip as I hope you have a great one!

I know we can save a lot of money by taking the passenger train but ,for us, the point is to be on the piggyback. You spend 5 days exploring the area instead of speeding by at 50-60 miles per hr.
Thanks for the come back tho.

Actually you travel at about 25 MPH with with some parts as much as 40 and other times in the 10 - 15 MPH range. You see all the same things you just don't sit still very long.

We did the Copper Canyon trip
It was fantastic.Having done many tours and many miles on our own thru all 50 states>>this was one of the best.
While we were on the trip, one day the train pulled up along side of our train and we talked with the train folks<<<<>>>>>they said how they wished they were doing what we were doing!!!!!!!!
I took a couple dozen bottles of water>>gal. bottles. So as to have my own drinking water. You will need clothes for all seasons. We had room on our flat bed car to just put our chairs out and relax as we rode along
So go and enjoy!!

Few More Questions...
I've been entertaining the idea of only going by Train as well.
What I'd Like to know...
While Traveling with the RV on the flat Bed Rail Car... Can the RV have it's slide rooms extended out?
If Yes... Can both Sides of the RV have it's Slide Rooms out?
How difficult is it to board the Flat Bed Car... is it level with a platform at all stops?
Can passengers move from one Flat bed Car to another to visit friends ?
Thanks for any information...

Friends of ours took a bus tour that included room and board. They left their MH in Yuma and had a ball. Based on their report we are considering doing the same thing next year. They booked the tour through Harris and the actual tour left from Tuson. I think it was about 3k for both on a 6 day tour ... I think! They are considering other tours based on how much they enjoyed it.
