I live in Snow Country (OHIO) but haven't earned my wings yet...so I suppose that makes me still snow bound for a few more winters at least!

If you are called a "Snowbird" because you go SOUTH for the WINTER..... then,..... what are you called if you go NORTH in the SUMMER to get to a COOLER place? Are you a "sunbird?"

There has been times in the summer I wanted to go north! To get out of the heat! That was when I lived in South Central Washington. Now, I live in Northeast Washington. Summers are mild, not really hot.

I'm not a snowbird but travel up down and around FL in early March. My daughter lives in Venice, FL and can't wait until the snowbirds go home. She says the town needs the money it brings but they are glad to have their town back in April.

Well for all of you that are like "ladyliberty" and can't head south for the winter, let me explain that "snowbirding" isn't  !!!!

Snowbirding is about avoiding the " cold " and not catching that health warning virus called {work }, due to this, the term { work } can never be used while preparing for or durning snowbirding, or worse yet even while discussing snowbirding.

First you have to load the RV up with all the warm weather clothes that you already put away for the winter. {I think that is called that four letter word "werk" }.

Next you have to go to the store and buy all the items that you will need to take with you, sun tan lotion, etc., once again more "werk", so now you will need to take the antidote 'Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract' ( WINE ) or 'Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter' ( BEER ), just to be sure you didn't catch that virus.

Now that you have finally managed to get the RV all loaded, cleaned, and ready to snowbird, you have to start preparing the house to be closed up for the long cold winter. Lets see, that requires turning thermostat down, shutting off water supply, arranging for mail to be forwarded, empty fridg, cut the grass for the last time, etc. sure sounds like WERK to me, you had better take a lot of antidote {'Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract' ( WINE ) or 'Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter' ( BEER ) }, just to insure that you don't catch that nasty virus an ruin your chance to enjoy whole snowbirding experience.

All set and on the road at long last, HMM, now you have to fight all the traffic on the road from those people that just don't understand that you are heading south and they should just move out of your way, so that you can get to your snowbirding destination fully relaxed instead of all stressed out from fighting commuter trafffic from those people that are still infected with the {Work Virus}, dang now that is starting to sound like werk again, just getting to your snowbird destination, better take some more antidote 'Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract' ( WINE ) or 'Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter' ( BEER ), can't ever be to safe.

Aw-yes you have finally arrived, now you have to set up to settle in. Time to level the RV, hook up utilities, roll out the awning, set up the BBQ, drag out the ice and blender, find a few bottles of favorite beverage an then go meet the neighbors. Dang sure sounds like "werk", and isn't the purpose of snowbirding, to avoid WERK , seems like all you have done since you came up with the idea to snowbird is werk, better take more antidote 'Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract' ( WINE ) or 'Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter' ( BEER ).

Finally time to relax enjoy the sun, the sand between your toes, the sound of the ocean waves gently slapping the beach, only to have it ruined by the fact that your glass is empty and you have to get up and go over to the blender, toss in ice and favorite beverage and refill glass, but then again you can always opt for just tossing a couple of ice cubes in the glass with favorite beverage and then returning to comfortable position while you discuss how bad the weather is back home and how you miss having to remove the snow from walkway/driveway and scrape ice off windshield, Oh sorry to change subject, but where would like to go eat tonight, there's a great out of the way seafood place just a couple of miles away.

Now you know what snowbirding isn't.

And always take antidote in a responsible manner! One can never be to carefull when it comes to catching that terrible virus { Work .

Be Safe

This will be my second year as a snowbird. Spent last winter in Louisiana for three months. Will be in Arizona this year for the winter. I try to head north in the summer to see all that I can see. And this year I am volunteering in Washington at North Cascade National Park. It is beautiful up here, surrounded by mountains and some of the biggest dang trees I have seen outside the redwood forest.

If you see a Forest River Sunseeker 3120 with just me and a cat, that's me!

I workamp as a volunteer in national parks. They provide a site with full hookups and sometimes a stippance. And we get to see the park and parts fo the park not usually open to the public. Work 4 days a week and spend 3 days site seeing the surrounding areas.

Whoa, I just checked again where you are. The "Ranger station" is only an hour from where I live. But the actual park you are at is in Chelan, which is 200 miles from where I live.

I heard it was going to snow in North Cascades this weekend (and it's JUNE!!!) so after work I was going to bundle up my cat and head out to keep you company until I found it was 200 miles! Nope, not driving 200 miles tonight....

No where near Chelan I am up at Marblemount and Newhalem. If you take I 5 north to 20 at Burlington than head east about 1 hour you will be in Marblemount, follow 20 on around the bend from town to Alpine RV Park. 13 Miles further east is Newhalem and the visitor center. Chelan is the recreation area, I am in the National Parks main visitor center.

We winter in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. So beautiful and tropical. We are at a resort in Alamo, TX. Last year we stayed 5 months this year we'll stay 6 months. We are 15 min from Nuevo Progreso, Mex. It is where the town is full of some of the worlds best Dentists. We are fulltimers and travel for a couple of months and summer in northern Minnesota. We will move on the end of September. The humidity is low in the valley and temps are tropical. Both of us were joint pain free and didn't need the pain patches or Ibuprophen. We were quite active playing golf and pool volleyball. The wind blows a lot. There are RV parks for every $$$$$. The food is wonderful and the community embraces the Winter Texans "snowbirds". Hope this helps in any choices. Lois

We have been snowbirds for over 15 years. We have tried Florida, Rio Grand Valley in Texas, Arizona, and southern California and personally think that if the sun is shining, you don't need a snow shovel, and you are among friends, you are in the right area.

We have been winter Texans fpr the past two years. We stay at a very nice small RV park in Victoria, TX. It is the Lazy Longhorn. You can check it out on the web. Not as croweded as in the vally and still mild weather.

Hello All! :D

My husband and I are a little confuzzed. How long can we stay in the U.S.? Is it 6 mos. ? Can you do three months Oct. - Dec. and three more in Jan. - March? Do we lose our medical coverage if we stay longer?

Thanks,

What my guests tell me when they visit us in Catemaco, Veracruz is they need to be back in Canada 1 day before the 6 month date....like 179 days in the US and Mexico...and not a minute sooner as its still cold up north!
