We have been traveling for about 2 weeks in our Discovery and have discovered that the Corp. of Engineers campgrounds are great places to camp. We picked up a listing in a local Camping World store and went online to check them out. We have stayed at 3 or 4 of them and everyone has been great. The parks all look like they could be an rv ad. Most of them are not too crowded during the week. The weekends book up fast ... but its worth taking the time to make reservations if you can. We tend to just take our chances because we never know exactly where we will end up.

The COE campgrounds are usually great places to stay if there is a big body of water that the COE's manage in your vicinity. However, most of them don't have sewer connections so you have to stay a short period or go dump and come back to your site. Small matter considering the low cost of staying at their campgrounds. Even a better deal if you have a Golden Age Passport (1/2 price).

Isn't the Golden Age Passport the same as Passport America?

NO, it isn't.
The "Golden Age Pass" which has now been replaced with the "America the Beautiful Pass" is issued by the Federal Gov't. It allows you to enter most Federal parks, BLM, Fish & Wildlife Ser., Bureau of Rec., Nat. park, Forest Ser, TVA, COE, for free and and in most of those places to camp for half price.
These are lifetime issued to persons age 62 or older at a cost of $10 last time I checked.
For more info go to http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm

Whodo, I think you got it right. I didn't know the Golden Age had been replaced by America the Beautiful Pass.

It was replaced the year before last but the golden age is still good. And it will be good. The difference is they have combined all the parks systems into one set of passes giving people more access without having to have two or three different types of federal passes. They are now down to the Annual, Senior, and Disability. Used to have like five passes or six with a seperate one for COE and like five for National Parks and such.

The Golden Access for disabled are free, with proper paperwork(dr's note, etc). They are also accepted for TVA Campgrounds and in Tnn state parks. florida accepts it if you live in florida...

If you are speaking of the America the Beautiful Senior Pass, yes it is.
For more information you can go to http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm they have a list of the different passes and other FAQ's, just click on the links on the left side top of page.

I got one of those about 2 months ago. I always carry it in my dinghy F-150. I believe my Fleetwood Revolution 40' might be a tight fit in some cases. Have not tried it in a COE site yet, but Georgia has a number of Federal properties where it would be advantageous.

The COE parks we have stayed in have all been pretty modern, with long sites. We are 53' bumper to bumper and fit into most sites with room to spare. The down side for Motorhomes is that all we have stayed in were predominately backin sites, so you would have to unhook before and after moving on the site.

I forgot about this and just looked at the site. There are countless places available across the country but it looks like you have to get the pass in person at one of the sites.
