I want to start an RV'ing blog. What are some good places to "blog" that are free and don't require you to report a lot of personal information in order to get an account?

I started the blog on AOL, because I like their "blogging" tools. However, I would like to get rid of the AOL account as it has become rather extraneous to pay for it, when I'm also paying for another account on my DSL service.

I too would like to know the answer to this one. I have a myspace account but don't really like to go there. My friends don't go there much and when I am on the road I would like to report my trips.

Also a place for my family to check on me and make comment to my travels/blog.

I have been thinking the same thing and today I started a blog on google. You have to have a gmail email address, but that is free, as is the blogging instructions and space. You can visit mine at

Feel free to comment, but look what I have done (only two entries so far) with no training other than what blogspot gives you.

I thought it would be just dandy to set up a blog so that folks could find out where we were and what we were doing on our RV travels. I did so at Google. It was very easy and I only wanted to try it out free before I invested $$ with our ISP.

You can check it out here http://patonlinenewtime.blogspot.com/

First we do not always have computer access despite the trusty laptop that accompanies us. Well we bought a wi-fi card (yes our laptop is older now you know because the new laptops have wi-fi built in.) Like what kind of RV parks are these without wi-fi----well try national Parks for one and it seems most of the parks through OH & PA and even a so called Resort RV Park in Tucson AZ where we will be in Nov with a group gathering. Sheesh for those prices I'd trade the golf access for wi-fi. (I see no need to golf, but give me my email)

By the way, does anyone know of RV parks with menu of amenitites options? Now there's a thought. Kind of like airlines charging for bags, food, etc. Or employee benefit menu plans...

Very well then I'd only blog when I could get access. This means I began to use the blog while at home, just to be sure I could do this. So what was intended for RV journaling has really morphed into my online journal.

Which brings me to question, some say to buy cell phone cards for the laptop. Well, I would not need that other than on the road so why would we want to invest in another contract of somewhere appx. $50 or more per month?

By this time, spouse Jerry says, "just go off line while we are on the road!" Well that is not an answer for me--I hate to be out of touch. I'm an email junkie. And I love to look on the net for newspapers, things, etc.

So what do folks do without wi-fi? Is there such a deal as purchasing a periodic use access card?

FWIW, we have a newer laptop that has a builtin WiFi antenna.
We have found when traveling though, the only signal the antenna receives is the WiFi at the campground.
I m not to keen on the security of thses thats why we use the air card.
As for the perodic card, contact your cell provider and ask them if its possible.
DW uses the computer while traveling to keep in contact with family.

Even though this thread is a bit old:

Perhaps the easiest and most active place to blog is with Blogspot. It allows you to create mutliple blogs, have good templates, and can be pretty easy to use.
www.blogger.com

WordPress is the "de facto" standard of blogging, though you either need to have your own web hosting or sign up at:

This "journal" is the Trip Journal that we developed using MyRVSpace and Google Maps.

Often we'll showcase a Trip Journal in our "Life's a Trip (http://www.myrvspace.com/tripjournal/lifesatrip.php)" section. But, so far as making your own goes, simply click on "Edit MyRVSpace (http://www.myrvspace.com/edit.php)" and underneath "Trip Journal" click "Start New Trip".

Stay tuned to the forums, though. I'm currently in the process of coming up with a "new" feature for the Trip Journals that involves your photos. I won't give you a time frame, since I try to make sure these things I come out with are as polished as possible, but I'll let you know as soon as I finish it!

jj,

I did finally find it.

While you are working on it consider incorporating some of the features of datastormusers.com (see my entry at:
http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=86 ). I have given up my satellite Internet system but would like to continue using the location and notification features of Datastormusers.com.

Specifically, each time I move I plot my location and post a little note of what I am doing there. You already have this but in addition, Datastormusers also has a notification list and my new location and post are sent out to everyone on the list. I would like to see this feature incorporated in to the MyRVSpace travel journal. I visualize that the last posting would be sent out to the members on the list with a link back to the complete travel journal.

Thanks in advance,

Let me make sure I got what you're asking:

You want to be able to notify other members (or people) every time you update your trip journal?

I need to put requests down to a single statement so I can add it to my todo list easily. :)

After I have initiated a location and a comment and come back to make changes, the changes are very hard to save. If I change a comment and then select Save from the Location column, the change immediately disappears. Sometimes if I click on Add a journal entry by clicking here, the edited comment is saved, sometimes it isn't saved.

What is the correct way to save an edited comment?

I believe it is, but I didn't do the Trip Journal, and I haven't really worked on the system. I will be taking a look at it while I work on this next project, though, since they're tied in.
