I need some help. My wife and I are heading to the Gatlinburg Tn area the first week of April. Seems to be plenty of campgrounds for sure but I am wanting to make the best choice. I have a 32' fifth wheel with one slide so I am concerned with the size of the sites. If anyone can give some feedback on favorite campgrounds in that area I would appreciate it. Happy Camping.

Twin River Creek carries a 10/10/10 rating with Woodall's and is very nice. At the time we last stayed there, we had a 36' fifth wheel and didn't have any trouble entering the campground, parking, etc. I don't remember the cost but that's good in a way ~ it would have stuck with me if the site rate was unreasonable.

It's on the trolley route so you won't have to use your truck on the days you're staying in the town to visit.

LeConte's is another that we used but didn't like it because we had to use our truck each time we wanted to do something.

There's another that's about 9 miles out of town. The rate was $25 and the park itself was small without any amenities except hookups. But, man, the fireflies at night were just beautiful! It's worth the time to stay there if low cost is what you want. I can't remember the name, but it's on Wear's Valley Road. The mountains surround you and it's a very nice view.

In Cherokee, NC, on the other side of the Smokies, there's a beautiful KOA nestled into the valley. Breathtaking view and winner of several KOA awards. Worth the stay at $40 per nite.

Hope this helps. Gatlinburg is my second most favorite camping area. Have a good trip.

We love Twin River Creek and wouldn't stay anywhere else! We can get in and parked just fine with a 40' bus conversion.
You can take the trolley from right there or it is a very short drive into town. Clean, quite, pretty and convenient to Gatlinburg. You are a bit out of Pigeon Forge but this is a must visit campground.

Hi Stacyb. We did pick Claboughs to try out. Couldnt get the sites you recommended so I got a pull through anyway. Thanks again for the help. The reservation went easily and the lady taking care of it found another campsite that should work for us. After we get back I will let you know how we liked it.

Look at the web site for Outdoor Resorts Gatlinburg. It is one of our favorite campgrounds, the only problem is it is located approx. 11 miles out hwy 321. We have tried other campground in the area, they just don't compare.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help on the Gatlinburg area. I hope we can get around and look at some of the other campgrounds while we are there for four nights. Looking foward to heading that way.

A trip to Gatlinburg isn't complete without a Cade's Cove drive! It's an unexpected no-cost treat. I hope you're discovering that for yourself right about now.

Oljoiner:

We just got back from Gatlinburg. Are you still there? We stayed near you in Walden Creek CG. It is also along Wears Valley Rd. It honors Passport America and the owner, Gary, is great! He is very accommodating and helpful. We have stayed several times in Holly Haven....just down the road from Clabough's.

Traffic sure was thick this past Saturday! Need to know the backroads to get around!

Stacyb....are you a Tennessean? Noticed your input regarding KOA in the Tri. Do you get to Pigeon Forge very often? We aren't very far away and go quite a bit. (Getting a Camping World in nearby Knoxville very soon!! yeah ----actually, Strawberry Plains).

Yes I am from tennessee. I run the East Tennessee Camping club you read about in the newsletter email. I camp down there alot. When we go to townsend we take the Strawberry Plains exit cause Wears Valley Road is just too scary with a camper

Don't forget about the Roaring Fork Motor Trail west of Gattlingburg. It is very beautiful and well worth seeing.

Roaring fork is a great motor trail. If you enjoy hiking about half way around the motor trail is the trail head for Grotto Falls its an added bonus As well as Abrams Falls within the Cades Cove Loop both of these are 2 1/2 to 3 miles one way so if you take these hikes besure to take plenty of water.
