Having a problem with the water heater, had it checked out a few months back and service tech didn't find anything wrong...same thing is happening. Have hot water for a short time, then when you need it..it's cold. Is the water heater switch supposed to stay on all the time or turned on when needed? Perhaps we have burnt the element out...any ideas?

hi terry,
i'd have to have the model number to be able to tell you that. without that i would just be guessing.

Steve, the water heater is an Atwood EHM4

Are you saying that if you leave the switch on you are running out of hot water?, and if so, does it make a difference if you are on electric or propane??
And, when set for propane; after the water goes cool can you hear the heater running-generally the flame noise is clearly heard, or you can see the flame if the cover is removed or through the sight glass if you have one, or you can feel the exhaust from the vent.
New problem???

I believe this water heater is electric only. We run out of hot/warm water very quickly, and even after not using it for the whole day, it doesn't seem to regenerate when we try it later.
