Hi fellow campers,
We like to leave the beginning of February for the Southern States, can you guys give us some info which resort you would recommend? We are new at this and would like to stay there for sure 1 to 2 months. We were thinking of Yuma Arizona or around Palm Springs or maybe Texas? Please give us your input, thanks already.:)

Yuma has lots of shopping and heavy traffic, close to Mexico for a day trip. Palm Springs is usually windy. Nice area, lots of indian casinos and date palm farms. don't know anything about Texas. We are outside Quartzsite Arizona, this will be our 3rd yr in the park. We are in the desert, very quiet, park has all amenities, lots of folks with ATV's. Yuma has loads of parks, check rvpark reviews and get some names and web addresses. We are down there from Oct to April. Too cold to come home to Ontario in the winter. have fun planning. Dona

Hi Jerry,
Hubby and I are in Desert Gold in Brenda. Its 15 minutes east of Q. This is our 3rd yr in the park. Lots of great people. Monthly rent is 450.00/we take the annual, stay 5 months(works out to 300/month for us). that way the lot is ours for the year and we have a garden shed on it to store the stuff you accumulate. have never stayed in another park in Q. Arizona Sun is nice, on the outskirts of Q but still within city limits. There are probably 50 rv parks in Q. Some nice, some so-so, some-won';t consider. I don't think anyone in Q has a pool, we do.I use it, hubby not a water boy. We have an atv and the park is surrounded by BLM land, youcan leave the park and ride for days!!LOL. Depends on what you are looking for in a park. Most rents in Q are not in the 450 range.Another nice park(across the road from ours) is Black Rock rv park. Great cafe on site. Also Wagons West down the road(hwy60 E.) Let me know what you want in a park, it will be easier to help you. We like being out of Q and just driving to it in January for the vendors and shows. If you like golf, then Desert palms in Salome is nice.Thats about 22 miles east of us on hwy 60. Have plenty of friends in there. Also Ramblin roads in Hope. Check out rv park reviews, alot of the Q, Brenda and Salome parks are listed on there. Hope this helps Dona :D

If you check on Pharr TX tropic star is at least 200 canadians strong and do they know how to party. I belong to the Ramblinnodaks which is partnered with the canadian northern lights fmca clubs and they have a large group in Southern texas all winter.

where are you going to be working in Q? Are you one of the vendors? We like the town in winter(could not handle the heat in summer!)Both sides of town-I-10 splits the town in half. South side has the BLM camping areas and a few parks along with the big vendors. North side has the town with lots of camp grounds and also motor home and trailer dealers and restaurants. Try The grubstake on friday night-fish fry(really good) don't dress up!LOL.. The chamber of commerce website might list all the parks(alot don't have websites).Dona

We used to have a RV lot in Quartzsite "Rainbow Acres Subdivision" we sold it in the spring of 2007 and now only spend a couple of weeks in Quartzsite and the rest of the time in the Yuma foothills for the winter, (we are looking for a lot there now to replace the one we had in Q).

small world, we have friends in Rainbow acres..nice area, some of the home are really great..the lots are big too. Do you know Dwayne Farmer> They have a house in there(emerald, i think) he is with our metal detecting club.We have not thought about going the lot route, just content to rent our lot and pull the 5th wheel down. May have Canadian ins.problems if we left it..
We will be in Brenda by the 1st. Dona

No we don't know them, we used to have our lot on Amber a few streets down from Emerald.
We had neighbors across the street from us that were Canadian and they left there RV there under a cover all year. They found it was much easier to just drive down in Oct. and then fly home for the holidays and then fly back in Jan. rather than dragging the RV down every year.
Never thought to ask about insurance problems, or if they Licensed & Insured in AZ. being they just left it.

Sweet Darlene's busy  , not if you get there before 4pm, get there any later and the line of people waiting to get in, is wrapped half way around the parking lot  Before and after the RV show things are not as bad.
Jerry, Dona
We will be in Q during the show, maybe we can all meet up some place during that time.

My uncle and aunt are full timers who spend their winters in Blythe, California at Mayflower County Park. It's reasonably priced and OK, but not a luxury resort type park. There are several Canadian couples there for the winter.
Our daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandgirls (3 and 5) live in San Antonio, TX and we will be spending most of November, December, and early January at Alamo Fiesta RV Park in Boerne, TX. This will be our 5th or 6th trip to this park and we like it a lot. It's only about 20 miles from San Antonio and the village of Boerne is a neat little town with lots of antique shops and other nice shops. The owners and employees at the park are nice and friendly and there are weekly ice cream socials, coffee and donuts, and pot-luck dinners.
Maybe we'll see you there.

Sounds good to me. When I get there I'll let you know. Is the invitation open if I'm not Canadian? I am a breakfast cook so I won't have to worry about the evenings.

Jerry, the KOA in Van Horn Texas on I-10 is a good place for a stop. They have a cafe, so someone else can make you breakfast!.. We should meet up. I go to the show about every other day to shop for crystal specimens and rocks. We are gold prospectors too! Hubby got another new detector, so hopefully he can get the "big stuff" this year..LOL..Dona

We're not Canadians either, just snowbirds, and the invitation is open to any one that happens to be Quartzsite.

Have a brother-in-law that is into metal detectors, seems he buys a new one just about every year, no, it hasn't improved his success any LOL.
I have heard rumors already, that the turn out in Quartzsite this year is supposed be down from last year.
(Last year was pretty slow, everyone showed up late and left early).
With all the dealership closings and manufactures cutting back or closing, not to mention the after market suppliers, I'm curious about what the turn out will be like this year.

We love the Palm Springs area. It is not as windy so you don't have as much blowing sand as Yuma and tons of things to see. Weather is very dependable. If you don't have a campground memebrship and want to see lots of stuff I would suggest going to AZ and staying at State Parks. They are very nice and fairly reasonable. You can find them at Arizona state parks on line or in CAA tour books. Also National Parks like Organ Pipes National Park are beautiful and often are covered with flowers Texas state parks are great too. If you don't mind boonbocking check out BLM land for stays in between campgrounds and fill with water and dump before you leave. That can be fun especially if you are travelling with someone else. Core of Engineer parks are also good. We have been doing CA, AZ and TX for 15 years and loved every minute of it.

We are in Yuma and depending on how long you plan to stay down it's pretty nice. We only have traffic issues in December and January and part of February when everyone is here. We come down in October and stay until late April or May. It's lovely down here but it's just a feeling we have of home. It's a small town atmosphere here and we love it.:p :)
