Isn’t it a shame that as we travel across the country with a CB radio on and all of the gross language on it. We went from Montana via Las Vegas to Pennsylvania through the middle of the country I-15, I-40, Rt. 160, Rt. 50, I-70 and we turned on the CB and with in 5 minutes it was turned off again. We worked in the work place all of our lives and we don’t need to hear this kind of talk on the radio. It is fine for the truckers as it is their work area.
Now might be a time for use RVer’s to adopt a channel of our own, say 29, 25, 32, it doesn’t matter, but it would be a way for the RV community to converse with each other. We don’t know if it is possible, but as the RV community get’s to hear about it through forums and other media outlets…..it might be a start.

jdensie, there has been an RV channel for many, many years. I think it may be 15 but not sure about that. Very few RVers use it because they listen to 19 for traffic reports etc. Some RVers use a specific channel for their brand of RV. The language does get bad at times but I have never found someone who would not stop the foul language when asked tactfully to do so.

It is a shame that this goes on. Let me say that I first started in to Cb in the late 60`s as a hobbie and by the mid 70`s I was done with it just because of that. After CB I became a Ham. I am still into it and love the hobbie and its world wide. Lots of RV`ers now use it.

At this time you don`t have to know how to use code just takes a little reading and simple test There are always test sites accross the country that you can get to.

In your browser type in arrl.net and you will be on your way to a "Clean" and happy hobbie and always contact with people you can enjoy talking to.

Todays time a CB for emg. and only on channel 9. The state police are always on it and will anwser you but it is to be used for emg.`s only, Sorry you wasted you money buying that CB. It is and always will be trash!! No regulation!!! Where we hams do it ourselves because we are required too by the FCC
Please check it out and get started. You will meet many, many new friends while on the road and get help if you ever need it. Thats what we are all about.

My ham radio call is kb7cmb, hope to hear you on soon.

If you need more information on ham radio please send me an email at
kb7cmb@yahoo.com

Best of luck

OK, my last thought...lol You don`t need to be a member of ARRL and I`m not promoting them. Just get the manual its just one source for information.

IMHO, Iv had cb s in every vehicle except the MH that I have owned since the mid 60 s. They do have their advantages.
I have found that if the "noise" gets to bad, turn up the squelch and it will cancel it out.
Just out of curiousity, is the one starting this thread, the same one that complained about being overcharged at fuel stops?

BTW, FWIW, I have found a couple of sites where I am studying for my tech ticket online.

I've had my ham ticket for years and used CB for many years before that and I still do. Some RV'ers try using channel 13 but I have never heard anyone there.
19 is the way to go, the language is nowhere like it used to be but if you don't want to hear it, that is why the little knob marked on/off is there. As far as channel 9 for emergency's, I have a 1000w linear so police etc., may hear me but they don't have the equipment to get back to me and that is the case any non-powered rig.

I'm surprised that someone who has his "ticket" would violate the law by using a 1KW box on his CB. If "Uncle Charlie" ever caught you that could be an expensive box.

I quit using a CB because of the language and when you are near someone with a high powered amp it comes through no matter what channel you are on.

"Uncle Charlie" hasn't been in business for many years now, no budget/money. The only problem is with ham rigs, problems with ham rigs can be (and some are) watched by ham radio clubs who "police themselves".

:) i agree, we rvr's. need a way to comunicate while traveling. i have tried many times to get a camper to answer me on CH.13 but to this day not one has answered. we have so much inf. to share that we could make traveling much easier. the trucker may have fowl lanuage but they are the ones we must call for inf. and they are the most likely ones to stop if u have a problem. they look out for each other. i hope someone can get us a rv channel to comunicate on.:)

i did get a good camping tip on camping at yellowstone park from this site.:)
thanks.
