KL7YB here and looking forward to joining the "forum qso".

I'm retired military, pilot, recreational prospector, ham and long time RVer. Presently rebuilding a '74 Class C Dodge Cobra that I plan to use here in Alaska for "near the road system" prospecting. I have to replace the roof so the antenna system is really open to all ideas for location and mounting.

I remember an article a while back about using a small tv antenna rotator mounted horizontally on the rear of an RV to raise and lower an hf vertical but cannot find that article. Does anyone remember seeing it and where I might find that information?

Good to be on the forum and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide. 73s

Hi Bill
Welcome to the forum. I did not see the bit you are asking about but have seen an antenna rounted that way. I think they used the rotator for one of the BIG old dish antennas. Good luck with your project and keep us informed.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the welcome. Since my last post, I found the article I was looking for in QST, and issue a couple of months ago. The author used an Alliance rotor since it is worm-gear driven and not planetary gear driven. This allows horizontal mounting without the gears eventually slipping out of position.

If and when I find a cheap used working rotor, I'll see what I can do and post the results.

I recently realized that I need to post a follow up to this thread re my RV mobile antenna decision. I mounted a Tarheel II to the cowl of my Winnie Ford Class C Chalet, unfortunately, there is too much RFI generated while the engine runs for reliable QSOs. I discovered that the hood is PLASTIC and all the EMI generated by the engine has an easy escape. So, my current efforts are trying to minimize the ability for EMI to reach the antenna as well as filtering power leads.

Future progress will be posted on a more appropriate thread, but attached is a pix of the current installation. Thanks, Dave, for your comments.
