We will get our 3 mo. supply of med.'s before we leave on our winter trip. WE will carry new prescription forms from our Dr. Can we get those filled at any military installation as we pass by? We don't know where we will be when or for how long on this trip. Or, are we going to have to use a civilian pharmacy and if so will out of state prescriptions be honored?
Thanks everyone,
Gussie

Gussie: If your perscription bottles show refills allowed, take the bottles to any near by military base pharmacy when near empty and see if they won't fill them that way. Whether a pharmacy will honor a written perscription from another out of state location I don't know. That's a point that bothers me for my next year planning travel.

Here might be a kicker for a traveler. I use a near by Army base for my perscription needs and they have a base rule that: 1, all refills must be called in by phone and 2: there is generally a two day wait before pick up plus 3: will only be held for 7 working days. I haven't bothered to check on what the procedure might be if traveling/passing by.

I can tell you if you go throu the vets site it can answer all the questions. I live north of Seattle and order mine over the internet. or I can stop by a vets clinic like I did in texas in sept and had two refills to pickup.

Get handwritten orders & mil. bases will fill them. VA or private Drs. They are good for one year. Make sure they CAN READ it , Drs name & type of med. I had no problem in Md. Plus, my wife & I go to Ft. Bragg every 3 mo. Hope this will help.....

my wife and I recently completed a trip to Tucson Az and had occasion to use the Tucson Medical Center( very nice place). We are covered under tricare for life and medicare. We encounetred no problems with perscriptions being filled. D-M AFB ( we were told) has no medical facilities avaliable ,hence the trip to TMC. The ER "Doc" wrote a perscription for me and advised to get it filled before departing the state as his drug permit was good only in AZ. I told him about my retired status and sourse for meds and he chuckled and said no problem. That was my expierance while out and about and for what it is worth, and thus, it makes it difficult to advise others, only to share experiances.
I have been told that Safe way pharmicy will fill out of state perscriptions by simply transfering records between stores via computer, my thought is ,if Safe way can do it ,why not others.
? A lot of niavity also goes with that comment
safe travels

Gussie and others,

Why don't you sign up with Express-Scripts and get your meds for 3 mos and you can set up winter address and have your meds sent where you need them. Since I have left OH in Nov have had them sent to several different locations.
