We spent the Thanksgiving weekend in Durango Colorodo. Beautiful place. When we went to pull the slide in for the homeward trip we found a block of ice had formed on top of the slide. The cover was frozen to the slide top, and we could not retract. I spent over an hour on the top of the RV chipping away the ice with a broom handle. Is there some trick to camping in the snow that will save me that hassel?

If the problem is that the snow pushed the cover on top of the slide you can eliminate that by putting styrofoam on top of the slide, this will keep the snow from pushing the cover in and also help keep heat from melting the snow and creating the ice. You can get the stuff from a building supply place in several different thicknesses-ask for rigid foam insulation, the type with the aluminum bonded to the foam probably will hold up the best. A hacksaw blade works well to cut the panel, but it is messy. Use aluminum tape, the kind used to seal fiberglass insulation on air ducts, to keep the foam from fragmenting.

I have seen people put a beach ball under the cover, no matter what, you will have to go up and remove it and brush off the snow.
