We had a flash heater on our previous rig,it ran on propane and I always had plenty of hot water. It was called a "wolter's" ? My husband worked on yachts and they are used a lot on boats. The only down side was that it was mounted on the outside of the rig and the pilot had to be lit from outside.

Depending upon what you want and need will determine if a tank less system would be a viable solution.
Check out these people, I have done bus. with them in the past.

:o We have a Damon 27' travel trailer and aren't happy with the hot water tank production. It runs out very fast, not enough to even have a shower. We were considering installing a tankless hot water tank, but they are expensive. Anyone have any ideas why the present tank isn't producing adequately? Solution?

Most likely you have a 5 gallon water heater, they are pretty standard on most RV's. As for taking showers, think Navy type showers. Get wet, soap up, rinse off while turning the water off in between.

A navy style shower just somehow doesn't sound like much fun. We had an old motorhome before this trailer and we could have a very decent shower without running out, so I'm very disappointed in this tank. Is this usual or should we get it looked at? Or what? We're going to be on the road for 4 months. Four months without a "real" shower?

This is pretty much what to expect. But there is hope. A couple of things that you can do, to help improve things.
1) Install a electric heating element in your water tank. Elec. & Gas operating at same time makes for a much quicker recovery time on water heat.
2) Install a point of use, on demand water heater.
3) There is also a device that works strictly on the shower, I haven't talked to any one that has tried it, so I can't offer any insight into how well it works. Its called a "Instant hot Shower". There was a article on it in one of the RV magazines 9-12 months ago.
4) If space is available in your RV you could get a larger hot water heater by upgrading to a 10 gallon heater with elec. & gas. This is probably what you had in your Motor Home.

Thanks Whodo for the great ideas. I'll pass those on to the driver/repair person in the family, my husband. We read about those hot water heaters for showers in the Canadian Tire flyer. They operate from a small propane bottle, sounds good but its one more thing to cart around.
We have 20 days to get this problem resolved.

If you can refit with an Aqua-Hot system then your worries would be over. I have this system on my 2007 Monaco Dynasty and when I'm hooked to city water I have an endless supply of hot water. My 19 year old son loves to take L-O-N-G hot showers and so far he hasn't run out of hot water yet (and he's tried :) ) It also handles the heating for my coach. This means the only thing I need propane for is the stove. (My refrig. is a totally electric residential model). Anyway so far I can't say enough good things about the Aqua-Hot system.
