Iv got a Gateway laptop with three USB ports on it.
When a device is plugged into one of the ports, I get a window in the task bar that says the device isnt recognized. When the same device is plugged into another port, it functions ok.
Is there a way to get the nonfunctioning port to work again?
Thanks.

Have you gone into your Device Manager and checked to see if you have lost the driver to that usb port or that it has become disabled???

According to the Device Manager, everything is OK.

Have you tried more than one device on that usb port and if you have and its not working and all is ok than I would suggest you buy a usb hub with three or four ports on it to plug you devices into. A laptop usb port is a pain to change. You can send it in and have it done. With the wifes we bought a hub instead at walmart and hook all her devices into that and it worked just fine and it also gave her more ports that she found uses for.

I had the same issue with a tower we owned. One usb port would only work with certain items, and then only part of the time. I got the usb hub abd all was solved and had room for several other things since when the tower was made printers hooked up thru a different cable now all the printers are usb hookups and my aux. power supply is now hooked up to the computer and when there are power issues the puter shuts down like it should now.:)

Chances are the first USB port is not USB 2.0 and the other is, and the device in question requires a USB 2.0 port to operate correctly.

Check the guide of the item you're plugging in and make sure it doesn't require USB 2.0. If it does, then you may be limited to only using said ports.
