I have been coming to this web site for about 2 years and I keep wondering why there is no Army thread.
I was in active service from June 63 till June 66 and served 64 in Korea.
Hopefully we can get some more US Army personal here.
Never been on the marine site as I was not in there group.

Thank you for starting a thread for those who served there country in the Army.

I made this thread a sticky, so it will stay at the top with the rest of the Military Branch of Service threads.

Regardless of what branch of service one may have served in, we all served with honor for our country and all are welcome to post.

Also while your reading this post, stop and read the post from all the other branches of service, we all cross post to different branches even though we didn't serve in that particular branch of service.

Thank you all for your service.

Beside being an army brat I served from70 to 90. Love the retirement pay. I too left the service as an E-6 SSG but only cuz I was on a team and promotions were far and few between.

I read all the posts. We all served our country and I like to see what everyone has to say. If you go online to www.military.com I think you will find it is very useful. You can post the units you were in, look for missing buddies, and find useful info.

I have a question and that is.
I went to military.com and I saw that you have to sign up (no fee) but that it stated you would be put on a mailing list.
After you signed up did you receive a lot of SPAN?
I would like to sign up but, not for the sake of more spam.
Thank you.

I get the news letter from them. That is all I have received from them. After you sign up you can go into your profile and clear anything you don't want to receive. I don't get any spam from them.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including Their life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -- Author Unknown

On this Memorial Day let us all not forget all of our Brothers & Sisters in Arms that are no longer here.

McPherson Ga. then 2nd ID Korea Camp Hovey 85-87. can't Believe I did all that ! I worked close with the Brass as a chauffer and Bodyguard. traveled alot at FT.Mac. Welcome joe. Did you go reserve to retire military or just retired from family business?
I am retired and always tell people they should stay to retirement because of the benefits and the retirement moneys compared to some working retirements that can be lost if a company goes out of business.
Heard 3rd is no longer in Germany, I was with them in Aschaffenburg ?73-76?, I think it was, lol anyway I know it was in the 70's, getting old is heck. Rock of the Marne and all that jazz. LOL
Enjoy the rving.

If a sailor can jump in here, yeah Joe some Passport America Parks have a lot of restrictions but a lot more do not. We have been using PA for the last few years & find it works well and pays for itself very quickly:) .

We had passport america back some five years ago and found that most site were off the beaten path so one had to drive up to 20 miles from a major highway artery to use them. Than some sites were the total pits and would never return to them for any reason. Also I hated the fact that most of them also do not give discounts during holidays, peak summer time, and so on. I also have found that if I go into one and tell them I have membership in the other organizations I am a member like good same, AAA, fmca and so on they will still give me a good discount if not the same discount. I have stayed at two in the past two years that gave me 50% without being a PA member. I just this summer join camp club usa which is cheaper than PA and they have a lot of the exact same camp grounds as PA.

God Bless the soldiers and thier families at Ft Hood.
I personaly believe that this should be considered a terrorist attack on a military installation in the United States. The soldiers should be considered killed or wounded in action.

Hello vets. Joined the Army in 1960 as pvt E-1, left the service in 1990 as a LTC O-5. Great career, saw many places, time in Korea in the early 60's, germany mid 60's, off to OCS for the bars, then Viet Nam, to FT. Bragg JFK Center, over to England, shipped to Ft Ord CA. 7th Inf (Light) then to Bankok Thailand where I retired from. Many great memories.

God bless the vets and those serving now.

Good morning all
I'm Jim and I'm happy to see all your smiling faces out there. I retired from the US Army in 1989 at the grand old rank of 1SG. I spent 20 years and 13 days in Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Rhode Island, Ft Campbell and who could forget Ft Bliss, TX. As a Soldier, I have camped in some of the best bivouac areas in the world.
I own a Fleetwood Scorpion S3 pop-up toy hauler but have the opportunity to buy a 1998 Monaco Dynasty diesel w/56K miles. Either way, I carry or tow my 2000 Harley-Davidson RoadKing.
I'm single (widowed) but have a girlfriend that enjoys travel too. I'll be 60 in June but cannot retire until 2012 at 62.
I'm open for any ideas and/or suggestions including how and where to register my RV once I retire if I go "full timer"
Thanks all.
Jim

Hi Jim,
Welcome to the site. I spent 8 years in the Army. SSG.
There are a few states that are good to register in when you retire and start full timing.

I am registered in Florida. No state income taxes, reasonable registration fees, and you can renew your drivers license and vehicle registrations through the mail or on line.

Vehicle insurance is a little more costly than some states. You can get an address through MY RV MAIL which is associated with Passport America.

You can get a lot of useful info from the members on this site.

Once again Welcome

Thanks for the Military Post. I entered the Army in 1968 and did a tour in Vietnam with 101st. Did three years active and then got in Army Reserve. Was activated in 1991 for Desert Storm and served stateside as a Major in a Tank Battalion. Activated again in 2001, (Go Figure) served stateside as the G3 of a training Division, promoted to Colonel in 2002. Trained over 2500 MPs and sent them to the desert. Retired in 2006, Finally, and enjoyed almost every moment of my service. Bought a Motorhome in 2007 and on my second one now, wife and I playing with the grandkids(Four Boys). Also enjoying Military campgrounds especially in Florida.
