No it isn't.
If you go to the list below you will notice that both the Dish 500 & Dish 500plus are the dual Sat. Dish-network dishes. They are both setup with internal switches.
They can be modified to work on Directv 101 sat., is it worth it, NO.
Now the single LNB Dish-network Dish 300 will work with Directv on the 101 sat. even though it is designed to work on Dish-network on the 110 sat.
You can get a standard single lnb Directv or Dish-network dish used for next to nothing from a installer that has removed it and replaced with a HD system.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directv Single LNB Sat. 101 (SD Standard definition reception)
Directv 3 LNB (Phase3) Sat. 101 110 119 (SD Standard definition reception)
Directv 3 LNB AU9 SL-3 Sat. 99 101 103 (SD & HD High definition reception)
AT-9 AU-9 & Slimline 5 LNB dish for HD & SD reception
Directv 5 LNB Sat. 99 101 103 110 119
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dish 105 Sat. 105w 110w 119w
Dish 121 Sat. 110w 119w 121w
Dish 300 Sat. 110w
Dish 500 Sat. 110w 119w
Dish 500plus Sat. 110w 118.7w 119w
Dish 1000plus Sat. 110w 118.7w 119w 129w
Dish 1000.2 Sat. 110w 119w 129w
A regular Dish 500 with a dual LNB only receives sats 110 & 119. The newer Dish 500+ has a special triple LNB for sats 110, 119, & 118. The 'special' LNB is for 118. When you look at it has the 118 circular LNB surrounding the 119 LNB.

Thanks. Seems more to it than I thought. I have a new standard reception DirecTV receiver with a dual LNB dish. I suppose that feeds the DVR off only the one Sat 101? So if I only use the standard box and not the DVR, as I understand it, I suppose I only need seek out a single LNB DirecTV dish for Sat 101??
My old dish was a DishNetwork 500 dish 110/119.

I hope I'm following your question correctly.
"IF" the area you are located in receives the local programs off 101w satellite, all you need is a standard single Lnb dish. You will find that even though it is a single "head" lnb it will have "2" connections for "2" receivers. The receivers can be any combo of receivers. (receiver & dvr or receiver & receiver, etc.)
Yes you will be able to hook up and use your DVR & sat rec. at the same time.
Note: The DVR & the Sat. Receiver must be Directv compatible. You can not mix Dish Network & Directv DVR's, Receiver's, etc.

Whodo,
If I understand you correctly, the original Dish disc will work with Direct receiver correct?
If so, now I know what I m going to do with the old dish thats been sitting on my roof.
I could use it incase we get parked under trees.
We have a direct receiver/dvr and in motion satellite in the MH.
Just have to learn how to aim it.

There's a Big "IF" you need to check first.
You will need to remove the "LNB" off the top of the boom arm and check and see if it has (1) or (2) coax connections.
"IF" you only have (1) coax connection then you will be limited to just the Sat. receiver for watching TV when using this dish.
(Note: Being this is a back up dish, for just in case use, I will not go into detail of different methods to resolve this issue.)
Just have to learn how to aim it.
Are you speaking of the roof mount dish? or the spare just in case dish?

The one on the MH is a in motion Winegard unit and it aims itself when turned on.
I was refering to aiming the dish Iv got on the roof of the stick house.
As far as the LNB, it has two leads coming off it.
We had it connected to two rooms in the stick house.

If it is a single LNB with (2)connections you won't have any problem using it for both (Rec/DVR)
Now as far as aiming the dish...
1) You need to know which direction (Azimuth) and what Elevation the dish needs to be pointed. Here is a link to the best program I have found, http://www.datastormusers.com/lookangle.cfm be sure and download the Zip program package as well.
(Yes there are other programs and methods to get the settings, I just happen to prefer this one.)
2) Purchase a Sat signal finder (here is an example; http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Signal-Meters.htm Item #11 or #12 ) They are available cheaper/more at a lot of different places, Radio Shack etc. These are also referred to as Marriage savers. They work much better than trying to hear the beep from the TV 50 to 100 feet away.
3) This step is for convince & ease, remove the 1/4" nuts off of the EL. & AZ. adjustments and replace them with 1/4" wing nuts, this will allow for quick adjustment and no need for tools.
4) Aim the dish farther East than the compass heading calls for (approx 5degrees) then start rotating "slowly" to the West. (NOTE: I said rotate "SLOWLY".)
Just because you get a signal reading on the meter does not mean you are on the correct Satellite!!! The LNB will pickup the signal from any Satellite it comes into the path of.
If you hit the wrong satellite, don't panic, take your time and keep slowly rotating the dish until you hit the correct one. Once you have the correct Sat. take a minute and fine tune (adjust) the Elevation for peak signal.
5) Practice setting the dish up a few times at home. Once you have done it a couple of times, it becomes quick and easy.
6) As far as "WHAT" mounting stand to use, that's your choice. Just remember, the closer you get the mount to "plumb" the more accurate the Elevation setting will be. (requires less adj. of elevation setting)
7)Forgot to mention the 101w satellite is the satellite you want.
Just for what it is worth, there is a Satellite about every 2 degrees, and there are several at the same heading, (example 101 degrees)
Here is a picture showing JUST Directv Satellites, this doesn't show the thousands of others that are in same area from other services.
