This may be old information to everyone (but me)...but I just found a source for $1 DVD rentals. Membership is not required. It's called RedBox, and it's available in my area in Wal-Mart and Walgreens. You swipe your card, get your DVD, bring it back the next day..and it's $1. New releases every Tuesday.
There is another system called DXD, same MO....but in our area they are available in BI LO grocery stores. If you provide them with your email addy you will get "codes" for BOGO on your next rental...you can search the area that you happen to be in to find locations...I LOVE this!!

Do you have to return the dvd to the same machine that you got it from or could you pick it up in say one wal-mart and further down the road return the dvd???

You swipe your debit or credit card. The one from BI-Lo you must return to the same location you got it from (remember it is only a 1 day rental) The Red Box can be returned to any Red Box location. I haven't rented from Red Box, just the Bi-Lo location. The machine accepts your DVD, one at a time, and tells you it has been received. I ask for my receipt in an email, because they send you a BOGO (rent one get one free) coupon with your receipt. I will try Red Box sometime in the future and let you know how that one works. You can check it out at www.redbox.com

The only problem with Redbox...and perhaps other DVD rentals of this type...is finding one. In all of our travels, I think I've only seen ONE Redbox machine, certainly no more than two. I guess if you travel in metropolitan areas, it wouldn't be a problem, but we usually travel in out-of-the-way places and small towns, none of which have Redboxes.
