Traveling through Los Angeles

We will be going from San Francisico to San Diego in late September. Map Quest routes us on I-5 right through LA. Is this a good way to go or should we by pass LA. If we decide to go through LA I was thinking a Sunday morning would be best.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct regarding travelling through LA on Sunday morning. As to the freeway through LA, I would suggest taking I-405 (San Diego freeway) which branches off in the Sa Fernando Valley, and re-connects w/I-5 in Orange County. It should be lighter traffic, but on Sun. AM either choice should be OK.

The 405 get get heavy even on a sunday another route would be the 210 east to the 15 south which will take you right in to San Diego.
