Wondering about what is your favorite GPS for a class c motorhome used by

foks who are not very tech-minded. We love to camp and love the ease of

help with directions. Our present GPS is an older Garmin 330C and it has

served us well....but it is time to upgrade. Don't want to spend money on

a mistake!!

You will get many answers but it depends on how much you want to spend, my Garmin Nuvi 350 is simple, easy to use and can be upgraded.

here you will find out more than you ever wanted to learn about gps.

As for us I cannot imagine not using a notebook with either CoPilot or Delorme Street Atlas. If you go this route I do recommend a roof top antenna/receiver it makes a big difference in getting a good fix, especially in cities.

We have the GlobalSat MR350 antenna and like it very much-you do have to install the driver but it works with both our gps programs.

I've used the Delorme Street Atlas on my laptop for a few years. It will get you where you want to go but sometimes the routes it chooses is NOT the best way to get there, so I follow my travel plans up with the Truckers Atlas. Some of the roads GPS selects are not compatible with larger rigs. If I have a question about a route to a destination I will often post my question and get someone with local information to respond.

Good Luck

Thanks to all who offered advice on my GPS post. Going to remain open on

any and all suggestions. How many use the one especially designed for

truckers? Our motorhome is only 29' and we tow a Honda Civic. Any guidance appreciated.

Computer Reports (several issues back) offered reviews on GPS, but I have

misplaced that issue.

Over a year ago we bought a DeLorme Street Atlas 2009.
What a great program to have, as we travel we connect the satellite finder and place the lap top on the dash and it gives us a turn by turn trip all of the way.
As a matter of fact we just programed our trip from Maine to Pa.
We can program in the exact routes we want to take, as a matter of fact on the trip from ME to PA we avoided all toll roads.
It has so many features that it would be impossible to put them on this post.

Your not using it correctly, go to your navigating settings, car, truck, walking etc.. Set it for trucks or big rigs, it really works. I started with a Delorme but what a pain with the laptop.

I have always used Garmin, My Nuvi 750 takes me coast to coast with no trouble at all. As I travel on my own a laptop would no be an option. Sits on my dash right in front of me, do not have to take my eyes off the road.

Not an option with the 2009 laptop software.

Not the Delorme, the Garmin.

I do agree with the comment that programs can take you on an interesting route, you do have to be careful and check. But when all is said and done we cannot imagine traveling without our laptop, one of the two programs and an outside antenna.

But boy do I wish that they would develop an rv specific version, eliminate all the poi's except for hospitals, police, campgrounds-state parks-Walmarts and repair/supply centers: do people really care where the nearest Chinese takeaway is???

Now we are under 10' so bridge height generally is not an issue, BUT we don't understand why height is not addressed as a priority and I have yet to really find out if the posted height is the MAXIMUM allowed or the actual clearance
