take liberties?- and to what extent?

I will admit to having gone over a stout looking small bridge at nearly twice over (it was dark, late and we were lost) though I generally will TRY to stay within a ton- how about the rest?? We are at 14k max with roughly a ton in ccc so I figure that we are always significantly shy of the gvw rating.

Living on the edge can be interesting, yes- we know the fines can be breathtaking.....

Never have, did cross a wood bridge on a creek once that had now weight listed but since it was on farm property figured it would hold and I took it going both ways.

I never bothered weighing, "stuff" is displaced evenly in the basements. (somewhat) :)

I'm not sure what your question is in referrence to, but based on the remainder of your post, I'm guessing you're talking about going over bridges that have weight limits less than what your rig weighs.

We have never encountered a bridge that had a weight limit lower than what our rig weighs, but wouldn't go over it if we did...don't want to end up in the creek or river!

lindah, so if you were 200lbs (two hundred) over the limit you would turn around and try to find another way, regardless of the distance involved?

That's like finding a campground for the night 10 - 20 miles off I95 when there is a Wal-Mart at the exit. :)

Actually, *we* would take the campground over the Wal-Mart. We stop early in the day...by 2 or 3 in the afternoon and who wants to spend the early afternoon and evening sitting in a parking lot? Besides which, our fiver has 3 slides and other than the bathroom, it is not useable with the slides in.

As far as the first question, 200# is 200#. How do you know how much leeway there is in the posted weight limits?

lindah, your situation is a bit different as weights are always caluclated for the number of axles on the vehicle; so with your four(?) it would be difficult to decide on how many pounds -both of your vehicles-are over, if at all.
Also on short bridges some/all of the truck and its weight would be off the structure.

But at any rate, from your wording it appears that under the right circumstances you guys would go-as would the vast majority of us, I think.

As for the risk, its probably all monetary-the last overweight I got set me back four weeks pay-look at it this way, if there was a real danger the DOT boys and troopers would be stopping people BEFORE the crossing; but funny thing-you always get stopped after - when the ticket can be issued, interesting no??
