Stopped at a shop yesterday to get some parts and a gentleman asked my thoughts on the Ford 6.0 diesel, the E450 chasis and then said "take it you're not happy with who built yours" he saw I was perplexed for a moment, then added "it looks like you have very carefully taken the manufacturers name off " which I have.

We had a great talk, a retired engineer who had a class A many years ago with a Detroit in it, which on a good day he said would get about 4 mpg...

Now I have heard of low mpg but -

You notice he said "many years ago".

murffdog, fair enough but it is is very accurate to say that older diesels alway got better fuel mileage than newer ones, especially true with the changes made in response to clean air 'standards'.

For instance, we had three VW TDI's, '00-2 '04's, these little diesels never got less than 57 mpg, and that was on blended winter fuel, 62 mpg was the norm on the highway during the summer. The new models are significantly off.

Our Liesure Travel B van with the original I 5 cyl MB diesel got 28 mpg on the highway, the new V6 gets much less than that.

Our '07 Ford Powerstroke 6.0 gets about 2mpg better than the 6.4 with the dpf but about 4 mpg less than the original 7.3.

Its across the board with diesel's-the Cummins boys say the same-, add the air pollution changes and watch the fuel consumption go up.

Having said this- he did have an older Detroit: 2 cycle?: and these do create very spirited discussion-'Screaming Demon' anyone??
