What's in a name

Would like to see some definitions as to what are the differences between what folks refer to a campground. I have seen them referred to as travel parks, campgrounds, RV parks, RV resorts. What separates them one from another?

To me, a "campground" is publicly owned whether it's a city, county, state, or federal park that may or may not have any hookups or other facilities. An "RV park" is privately owned, usually with full hookups, but not always.

IMHO, I will say what I think.
A campground weather publicly or privately owned is a park that has water and electric and maybe sewer with very few amenities, sometimes it only will have a space and no hook ups.
A resort has all W/E/S hookups and has a host of activities and specialized services for their campers.
It seems to me that a Travel Park is used mainly by one organization to name their campgrounds.
Like I said it is only my way of thinking.

Here is my take on this a campground is a place open to all types of happy campers (tent,pup, tt, 5er's,and moho's). Rustic cg's have no hookups and vault toilets, no showers and would be considered by most rver's to be boondocking. modern campgrounds have some if not all hookups (here in Mi the state parks have electric but no water or sewer hookups) most have electric and water and some of the higher end ones include sewer. There may be some activities especially for the kiddies.
A resort has many more amenities and activities and may have toys available for your enjoyment. Also they may have tours of area attractions, kiddie rides,or other types of entertainment.
A travel park is more of a place for seasoned rvers or retirees. They have all the amenities such as water, elec., sewer, cable t.v., internet service, and other things. They seem to be geared more towards the higher end campers also.
Basically I believe the difference in the names comes to the same as staying at the No Tell Motel to staying in the Ritz hehehe.
