The National Forest Service is proposing that the Golden Age/ Golden Access Passes discount be reduce from 50% to 10%, because the poor concessioners aren't making enough.
Here is the link to the official notice;http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/E9-28744.htm
And here is a link to the comment page,(to use after you read the proposal)

It really bites me that a part of the govt. is not worried about it's seniors and disabled, but more worried about how much some concessioner is losing by giving a disabled Vet an $8 discount on his campsite, yes, many of the Seniors & Disabled, using these passes, are Veterans. I am also sick & tired of our govt giving away (to these concessioners) our NF's & NP's that the tax payers already own.
Other places to write and get involved, on behalf of the vets mentioned, are the American Legion & The VFW, two very powerful organizations.
I know that this doesn't affect ALL of us, YET, but I assume that we all want to camp after we reach Senior status.

Before anyone dismisses this as something that really doesn't concern them, please realize that the link above provided by "bukhrn" (http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/E9-28744.htm) is only a six (6) page Summary submitted by the { DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE namely the Forest Service } (Page 62736-62742)
The whole document (DOCID:fr01de09-33) is very long.
It is written in typical government legalise, to confuse everyone, if you think that this is written just for the benefit of the { DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE namely the Forest Service } and the (Concessions) then you need to read the whole report.
If approved it will open the door to more elimination of benefits of the Senior and Handicap access passes as well as the annual pass.

It's amazing, the way they get us to pay for things, we've already paid for through taxes, but then NONE of this money will go back to the govt, but go to the concessioners.

I posted my opposition to this on the website. Then I wrote to AARP to ask for their support in stopping this action. Contact your politicians and let them know how you feel about it!

Just got done writing to AARP, don't know what good it'll do, as they are already aware of the proposal and refused to be interviewed by the NFS.
I also wrote to the VFW, American Legion, and my congressman.
Hope everyone keeps sending those letters out, maybe someone will listen.:(
