An article in yesterdays newspaper said that the local yearly rv show was a success with alot of interest in the small teardrops, one dealer sold half of the ones they had.

For about or less than the money that these are going for, 9 g's was mentioned in the paper, one can get an awful lot more pullable unit new, and even more used.

My suspicion is that these products are alot like the Sprinter van conversions; we had a Leisure Travel Van and it was a love hate relationship, a better daily/weekender is not available but beyond that and things get cramped, very cramped-sure do miss 28 mpg's though.

Can anyone clue me in on the rolling coffins?

I think it's the folks that don't want to get too far from their tenting roots, but want slightly more comfort. Of course i have absolutely no facts to back that up, just my opinion.:D

They are popular with people who do not want to tow a full size camper or their tow vehicle will not allow them to. There are clubs with people who tow these campers weather vintage or new. Like Bukhrn said they are like a tent experience but have kitchen in the rear that folds open and the inside is usually just a sleeping area.

I can see the desire to get up off the ground but there are less expensive ways to do it and to have a much larger unit with very similar weights. I can see the attraction to solid sides, but having to cook al fresco must stink when the weather is bad, no?

Then again, our whole Phoenix Cruiser stinks

While that may be true, so what? If people want to spend the money for a teardrop, why do you care?

When one tent camps they also cook in the open air rain or snow. With the teardrop trailer the stove is protected from the rain by the back lift door.
