Retired Reservists can now enroll in TRICARE Standard before the age of 60, as long as they agree to pay the entire TRICARE Standard premium.
I believe this will be a great benefit for Retired Reservists that are not yet 60 years old and eligible for Tricare for Life and Medicare. I will be fully retired from my civilian employer with 30 years at 50 years old; I also have a a 28 year reserve retirement. Until this news came out, me and the wife were going to have to go to Mexico for medical procedures or fork out $1500 per month for private insurance during my 10 year gap (gray area benefits only), now we will be able to purchase the Tricare Standard. I am hopeful the premiums will not be too bad.
