Howdy! Does anyone know of a mapping program or maps that denotes bridge, tunnel hight restrictions and any restrictions on propane on motorhomes?

Thanks

Information on clearances is available on the AITAonline.com site listed below.

http://www.aitaonline.com/Info/Low%20Clearances.html#California%20Low%20Clearance s

There are downloadable files for a variety of mapping software programs available on the Discovery Owners website. A couple of these a clearance files. You do not have to be a member to get the files.

http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfo.htm

I haven't found a source for propane restrictions other than State DOT or the actual Bridge, Tunnel or toll road website. Most hazardous material restrictions are posted well in advance and then at the last exit for the HC (Hazardous Carrier Route).

Hope this helps.

Traveling down an interstate and finding at the last exit that they have a propane restriction is not a good thing.....I want to plan my route before a situation like that arises........the same with height limits.

If anyone has the definitive source for accurate information I would really appreciate knowing about it.

geng212121, I agree but just what can you do to get the correct information.
Last year we were on the Garden State Pky, (NJ) when up came a sign that stated "ALL TRUCKS MUST EXIT" fearing it might be height restrictions we got off and called the local State Police troop, they connected us (very pleasant people) to the dispatcher at headquarters and we were told that if the vehicle was over 10klbs(?-it may have been slightly more or less but we were way over the limit whatever it was) that we had to exit. Just as we were trying to figure out a route another rv stopped and asked if we were ok. When we told them the problem they said to ignore the info from the State Police as it was incorrect. Since they ON where we got off we figured they knew what they were talking about.

The following morning we called the State DOT and got another very civilized person who said that buses and rv's of any weight/length could travel the entire section of the Pky.

We use both Co-Pilot and Delorme, and with regard to alot of critcal info both programs are useless.

The Trailer Life Directory has information about which tunnels either prohibit propane altogether or have restrictions.

Keep in mind that the height restrictions shown in the Motor Carriers Atlas shows those restrictions only for the roads that the big rigs are allowed on, and which is true of the AITA website, too; otherwise, you're on your own.

Hey Wagon, we ordered the i-EXIT Travel Guide that was hawked by James via email recently. While most of the book is devoted to the services located off each exit of the interstate system, there are some pages in the front of the guide that are dedicated to low clearances on state highways.

from old truck driver stay on instate an us routes if you go off them read all signs an ask before you go. Rember they pave under overpass's . If it looks lower then it say it probley is. Drive slow and stop and check before you go under no matter how many cars are behind you or you may pay for a new bridge .
