I do not work for either Globalstar or Satellite Phones Direct, nor do I profit in any way from sales or rentals.
You can now get a new Globalstar GSP1600 for $149.00 with the only caveat being that you must activate, at a cost of $50, an unlimited minutes account, at a cost of $35 per month but which can be cancelled at any time with no penalty But yes you will have to pony up another $50 when you are bugging out on your trip should you cancell your plan and wish to un cancel your plan as we do when we go down South to see the inlaws.
Up North, NH at the border, its no problems with the booster.....
Yes Globalstar does have problems with providing uninterrupted service; you may and probably WILL have to wait 20 minutes or so until a satellite comes into range-and you will be limited to 10-20 minutes of talk time until the satellite goes out of range BUT you WILL be able to make calls from most anywhere in the US.
Now I know at least one person here is saying to herself, 'isn't this the jerk who types about how good the 'Smooth Talker' booster is? and yes this is BUT even with the booster we were unable to make calls in the South because we have Verizon and the service in many locations was another provider.
So while you can count on having to wait you can also count on being able to make calls when all else fails AND Globabstar is in the process of arranging for new launches starting in the near future.
We think of it as money well spent, you may not, but I did want to let everyone who visits here know about the offer-these phones were roughly $700 in the very recent past....
This phone is big and it is clunky, definitely mil spec but the voice quality is superb-when you have service that is.
