Hi al Class A motor home/RVers: My husband and I just pruchased a 30ft Mirada300-Coachman motor home. Which towing unit would be best for towing a small ranger truck or tow trailer ? We thought a trailer would be good because we also have a motorcycle. All suggestions- due we only want to buy somthing without any problems down the road.

Hi Katie, I believe the best way to tow a vehicle is 4 wheels down, using a trailer or tow dolly creates a problem at many campgrounds, like where do you put a trailer or dolly at your campsite. not sure if your ranger can be towed 4 down, but would be worth it to you to find out! then the bike could ride in the truck, the next thing you need to know is what is the capability of your Coach on how much weight it can safely tow. There are many ways to tow vehicles!!! talk to folks at the Campgrounds and see
what they use and ask them questions. I would definitely
research the question before I tie up a lot of money. Good luck in your search. Scott

I just completed preparing a 2002 tahoe automatic for towing. I towed it home, about 50 miles, without any problems. As easy hooking up and disconnecting as a saturn but conversion was not cheep. If you're mechanical, you can do it yourself and save.

I've towed with a "dolly" and "4 down" and 4 down is far better, in my opinion. I towed a Ford Suer Crew behind my last motor home (Remco drive shaft disconnect) and it was better for me. I just bought a new m/h and will be towing a Crew Cab Z71 behind this one. The only thing the "trailer" might do for you is that you can back a trailer up. Good luck!

4 down is, in my opinion, a far better way to go, assuming your truck bed can hold your motorcycle and your MH and tow bar is properly rated. If you go to the Motor Home Magazine web site thre is a list of vehicles that can be towed 4 down....I have a Blue Ox tow bar (rated to 10,000 lbs) and a Tow-V-Aire supplemental brake system....I am not mechanical enough to do it myself, so I have about $2700 invested in the parts and installation, but it is very easy to use.

go to www.rvsafety.org and read "A Tip for You" Your motorhome probably has between 3500 and 5000 ibs of towing capacity.
Your motorhome and toad should not exceed the "GCWC" Gross Combined Weight Capacity. The Motorhome should not exceed the "GVWC" Gross Vehiche Weight Capacity and your Toad should not exceed the Towing Capacity of the motorhome or its hitch and it may require a supplemental brake to stay in the capacity of the motorhomes braking capicity.
