Well, Mr Dr said I needed to cut down on my fat intake, so I try not to eat while I work out. Oh, did you hear that Mc Donalds is going to use ALL TRANS FAT FREE oil? I love the fries...

Hi, I am Dreda and stumbled onto this site today....the 'sisterhood' caught my eye...this is great. My husband and I just started full time last August. Anyone in East Texas?? Husband is newly retired (medical) and I am still working part-time as a nurse. I am so excited about this site! People to talk with! I too, am overweight, aren't most of us. LOL Decided not to make it a large part of my focus...I take walks around the RV Park, laps actually, weather permitting, and that is enjoyable. I have a 3 yr. old chihuahua, she is just the right size for RVing. Good to meet all of you.

Hi, I'm Donna, currently live in Florida, selling our Mobile Home and then we will start full timing again. I am also overweight. I try to behave myself but we all know how that goes. I have a 6 year old chihuahua, bubba, we wanted him to think he was a big dog and he does. I try to go for walks around our park, but the heat here bothers me. Oh well I guess I'm just going to be fat forever.

Like the rest of you I am new to this forum, but not new to camping. Through the years we have camped with a tent, a travel trailer and now own a motorhome. My husband is simi-retired, he drives a school bus which leaves us the summer free for travel. We had to give up camping for a few years due to my mother living with us, she didn't do well in the mh. So we had an expensive dust collector sitting in the barn. She passed away last July at the age of 97. The same week we buried her I left in the mh just me and our cat that loves to travel, hubby couldn't make the trip. I went to NV to meet my new grandson. Planned to be gone 3 weeks, was gone over 2 months. Had a wonderful time. This was the first time I went all by myself. Really was a great experience. I would do it again. We will be leaving at the end of this month to travel until next Aug.

My hubby and I are dreaming of becoming full-timers. We are wanting to ride out into the sunsets for a long time so we tried the nurtri-system food plan.
WOW are we looking good. I lost 40 pounds and he lost 50. I have 20 more to go. It has taken us a year but the food is great and we are very healthy and are looking trim. The secret was - believe it or not - for me I was not eating enough. I eat a bunch of food now. I am never hungry (the secret)
and it is the right food for your body. Fruit -vegetables. We use the lge bags of frozen veggies and fresh when available. I was desperate and was looking at the stomach surgery. We really ate the low fat and healthy choices but both of us were just getting out of control in our sizes. I have lost 4 clothing sizes and hubby went from waist size 44 to 37-38. Had to ditch all our fat clothes. I swear this is so easy and it works - even thru the xmas and holidays. We bought the weekends off -over 40yrs plan. It is the best thing you could ever do for your marriage and health.
We are new to rving and have 99 diesel 36' coach.
We work so it is hard to get away much but we are learning.
We are in South Texas -near Galveston.

Hi Dreda,

I am new to this site and read your post.
We did live in East Texas about 20 years ago.
We lived in Tyler, Longview and Arlington.

We moved to St. Louis, MO with the RR but
are now retired and back to Texas.

We now live in Kerrville, TX.
We love it here.

We go to Port Aransas for a month in the
winter with our RV. We love the ocean.

Drop me a line.

Hi, I'm Judy, also overweight, but back on a plan, have lost 5 pounds since last Friday. I am hoping to stick with it this time. Yesterday was hard, met a friend traveling through for lunch, the went with a group for our once a month dinner. Today I will cut back. I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee almost 2 months ago, so am getting back to walking.

We have been fultime since '99 but work summers in Iowa to be near our kids. Also helps with expenses. I enjoy scrapbooking, rubber stamping, making fun fur scarves, beading, and plastic canvas. I have 2 greeting card programs on my laptop and have been printing my own pictures and using some in the scrapbooks and backing the rest of them on cd's. In transition from one computer, crashed to another, glad I saved them!

I am liking this site already, espescially the "RV Sisterhood". No, I don't get much of my crafting done when I work, I spend as much time as I can with my family and long time friends here in Iowa. And there's always laundry, I like my closet space, so we don't have a washer/dryer. We have uniforms, so I have to keep up with them every 2 days, but laundry is available. Later, I must get ready for work. ;) Judy

Hi Maria, I used to live in Ct. Now I am Mass. I am thinking about traveling South for the Winter months. Probably to Simon Island Georgia on the coastal region.I am 50 yrs old and I am single, so I would be traveling alone. I wish I could find someone to caravan down with. Do you ever go far with your RV? I have never been alone traveling with my trailer,so I am a little nervous about going it alone. Anyhow Hope to hear from you.

I woke up this morning and thought what the heck am I doing this RV crap for. I am out here all alone (at this point hubby and dog didn't count), woooe is me. I found a RV magazine and was going just to look through it before I threw it out. I found an add for this web site in it. I know this sounds crazy but it really is an answer to my prayers. I have heard about how wonderful the rv life style is and I know how much money we have spent to have this life style, but I am not really enjoying it. I too am over weight and that limits some of the activities that I can do. I felt that I was the only one out there. Now, through this site I have great hopes of meeting people and doing different things. Right now we are in Ohio and will be heading to Virginia. We will be spending the winter in Flordia. Maybe this wont be so bad after all. Pam

Ok, I know it ... I'm a guy and am not supposed to be reading this thread ...
I came across a good article in The Western RV News about the RVing Women National Convention and the web site www.rvingwomen.org. Thought I'd pass it along for whatever its worth. Now I'll head back to where I belong.
Safe and plesant journeys!

Hi,
I am retireing in the next year and my husband and I will be hitting the road. We are going to start with small trips this year and will take delivery of our first RV in about 6 weeks. We are from NH. Sounds like you all like to cook! I am trying to decide what cookware is best for the RV... any suggestions. We both love to cook and don't want to give that up on the road.

Having a ladies forum is really great!
Cheers

Hi, I am Albina from Florida, we have been enjoying our early retirement and just recently purchased a new 2008 Fleetwood Southwind 32; we love it even with a few little warranty issues that we are currently dealing with. We are planning on going to Texas in March for about a month, then on to Nova Scotia in the Summer (God willing).
We used to take yearly sea cruises out of Florida, now we are land cruising and enjoy taking our little Yorkie "Maggie" with us.
I think the right kind of pots & pans are the ones you can use in your Convection/Microwave, why mess up the inside?? let the husband grill outside and open a couple of cold beers and enjoy life. Keep it simple and healthy.
Happy travels.;)

FLSouthWind,
Thanks for the input, my husband says thats a great idea (cold beer). I didn't think about the microwave/convection but thats a great point. Hope to see you on the road. You will love Nova Scotia! We fly fish and go up there every October Salmon fishing. The people are great and the country is beautiful. Go to Digby for scallops!

hi all,, a senior here.. and plump.. oh well.. i've enjoyed camping many years with my husband, but he is now deceased and i'm trying this on my own now.. been rough.. we all started with tents, then pop up, now i have a 28' travel trailer i bought last year and its harder than i thought. i took grandkids to cape may n.j. scared the hell out of me driving this thing.. lol.. but we did it.. the first storm that hit, took my awning.. away it flew.....i was ready to call it quits, but we all hung in there laughing it off.. we are all beachbums at heart. had to pull that thing on the lewes ferry and what an experience.. it was like, "get outta the way boys 'cause here we come"..lol.. oh and it only took me 90 minutes to back it up in my spot at the campsite:) .. but anyway, thats life for ya.. have fun at it and do each day with a smile.. better than crying huh...keep in touch.. good luck

Don't worry about travelling alone. If you feel comfortable with your unit, you shouldn't have any problems. Last year, I travelled from Arizona up to Indiana then on to the East Coast and down the Eastern seaboard and back home via US 40 & US 10 to Arizona. Had a greaat time and met lots of nice people. Walk around the park when you arrive, say hello to everybody, invite some people over to share a campfire or "happy hour" and you'll be made to feel right at home and maybe make some new friends. I did purchase a GPS to help me navigate now that I no longer have my husband as navigator. Nancy

Just joined this forum - I also read open roads, escapees, rv forum community, and a few other forums and blogs. We have camped for a long time. Now we have an Allegro Bus 40QSP. Guess we are "wannabees" - DH works full time and I have a part time job. We do go RVing as much as we can. Been to Badlands, Custer SP, Palo Duro. Also, the southeast coast and the Florida Panhandle. The way the ecomony is taking a dive, don't know if we wil ever be able to realize our full time dream. Have a 5 yr old pearl white schnauzer, PASCO ;) , the FurKid is the co-pilot and loves camping. His idea of camping is meeting new dogs, new smells, lots of walks, sleeping with Mommie and Daddy!
Will be checking back with all of you very soon.
Keep the wheels rollin'!

tuson and pasco, welcome ladies. pasco as in pasco county fl? several fl gals here, just haven't posted lately. myself i'm heading west to tx, nm and az. leaving fl aug. 1st. i live on the keys and it's cooler here in july than where i'm heading. on the way back hope to go over to NC for october, then back home in nov. it's so much fun planning the trip, and tuson a nav. device is already installed in the truck. got the little tom tom, works good around here, easy we only have one road on the keys, lol

OPPS! Pasco the Furkid is from Pasco County, FL - but we are live in Alabama. The weather in our area is very nice during this time of year. But in the summer it is time to go NORTH or to the MTNs for awhile. Bugs and heat can really take the fun outta camping!
We have a 7200 Garmin GPS -HER name is "HELGA"! It's great to get lost and go exploring the back roads of the local area and then plug in the campground address and head back to the MH. "HELGA" gets very upset with the DW to get on the right roads!

Hi and welcome to the forum, it is a great place to share and visit with each other. Just so you and any others that are having problems with their weight, you might want to try the paleo diet (or way of eating). It is basically eating live food, lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. :)

Hi... I am a wanne-be fulltimer... and overweight too... with health issues on top of it. But I make the best I can of it, and enjoy myself! I also post over on rv.net forums too.

We have five more years till hubby can retire but already have the rig, 38ft motorhome. I drive it too. Been camping all my life, as a kid we even lived in campgrounds all summer in the UP of Michigan. We go as often as we can, even if the diesel is going through the roof.

Currently snowed in again this morning in Wisconsin Northwoods. When is spring ever going to come?

I am a weaver, knitter, spinner and take all my arts on the road with us when we travel . Makes for interesting conversations in the campgrounds when folks wander by to see what this or that contraption is. The most interesting is my 100+ year old antique circular sockknitting machine. Even the guys get a kick outta that. I can knit a pair of nice wool socks in an hour, from start to finish.

Let's see if I can get some pics of my camping-projects on here?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/kareninthewoods/camping%20stuff/weaving_in_da_woods.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/kareninthewoods/camping%20stuff/cranking_socks.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/kareninthewoods/camping%20stuff/sittinandspinnin.jpg

There is also a feature here on the myRVspace called Campfire Chat. I have been going there early mornings for a coffee clutch with a number of folks, and also sometimes evening chats too. Perhaps we gals could get get together at a certain time and meet up there in real live chat?

hi karen, great photo's, great hobby, except you're sitting all the time. i've been a dieter all my life. nothing worked. you know how they always say diet and exercise. well i finally joined a gym, had metabolism checked (i naturally only burn 1440 calories a day, quite low) so if i go on a diet of 1800 calories a day, i'd gain weight. it's really a math equation. at the gym many machines tell you how many calories you are burning, i especially like the treadmill and can polish off 300 calories at a time. also weight bearing machines are good for women's muscle mass.

so here's what works for me. count calories, everything you put into your mouth, know how many calories you burn during the day, wala, the weight starts coming off, amazing and i feel just great. now i know i'll have to exercies for the rest of my life, just to stay at goal weight. so when your spinning, take time to briskly walk around the park and take a break. hope my litttle story inspires others to get moving......elaine
