I just got my new class A & will be flat towing a Chevy HHR. I feel I need a splash guard, mud flaps or ?? to keep the rocks etc. off my HHR. I've seen the ones that are like a long hanging brush, some w/ what appears to be approx. 2" hanging strips & some that are solid. They also have systems that mount on the vehicle or even the vehicle bra's. I want something simple to use.

What has worked best for all of you out there ?

I have used both the brush & solid both have worked well. This MH has a solid one and I don't see a lot of difference in amount of dust and dirt that collects on the toad maybe larger stones can't penetrate the solid one.

Agree with EarlJan34! Do not see much difference between brush and solid and have had both!!

ENJOY!!

I have one that is solid...I tow a new Dakota and have noticed that even with the guards I still get chips on the sides of my truck that must be blowing around and landing on the sides.

I have seen some that attach to the tow bar and provide a protective cover for things thrown up behind the motor home. One lays flat and another one covers the front of the toad, attaching to the hitch points. I don't remember if they were from "Roadmaster" or "Blue Ox". I have also had the "brush" type that hang below the back of the coach. On my new m/h I don't have either. The rear of the coach sets pretty high off the ground and I don't know what it would take to cover the "gap". Good luck!

I tow a HHR behind the M.H. over 6000 miles and no dirt flap at all and no chips or marks on the car so fare. Bushman

You didn't say if your Class A is a Diesel Pusher or front engine, a pusher will melt the brush type in most cases because of the exhaust pipe. Most pushers use the solid mat or chain hang down type.

The recommended clearance for solid protector like the UltraGuard is 4" above the ground. If it drags, it will kick up gravel all by itself.

For the things that get picked up or kicked up, there are 3 choices available. In my opinion, none of the them are very good.

One is the barricade in front of the car supported by the tow bar. It's has to be stored when not it use.

Then there's the "dirt skirt" that hangs under the towbar between the car and the MH. It folds up when not in use.

Lastly, there's the bra cover for the front of the car. If the car isn't clean when it's applied, it will scratch the paint.

Take you pick. I've got a bra for mine. It's effective but I consider installing it a pain. I'd like to the try the dirt skirt next. The commercial barriers don't appeal to me but I've seen some simple DYI projects made from plastic tubing and a canvas or vinyl stretched between. It looked easy enough to make and a lot lighter than the commercial ones I've seen. I've also seen some homemade dirt skirts that should be easy to make and give just as good protection as the commercial ones I've seen. I think I'll try my hand at making my own before I spend several hunderd dollars for one of the store bought units.

I use the protect A tow skirt, it is easy to put on and remove. I used the Tow car shield for my old toad and it was too much trouble to use.

we have used many things in the past, but for several years have used what my husband calls a "diaper" with good results. It is as you describe above and we made our from awning cloth and it keeps debri from coming up from the ground. goes between motorhome and vehicle, over tow bar. using bungee cords and eyelets to connect.

I have been Rving for 22 years and i never had a splash guard on my motor home, until i got my Allegro with the rear view monitor and i could see ever thing that was hitting the front of my Towed Car. After i installed a splash guard i don't have anything hitting the front of my car now.

i have brush and solid flaps under the kountrystar but still got windshield chips until i added the solid guard on the front of the toad, malibu maxx. the bra was on my old caprice and it ruined the paint. i hang the solid guard on the mh mounted towbar when i unhook. camping world sells the solid guard that mounts on the roadmaster base plate.
