Has anyone had experience with cold air intake kits such as the K&N system.
I don't understand why they have a horsepower chart but not a torque chart. By the way, does anyone out there really run an engine above 5000 RPM? That's where they show the HP gain!

save your money...unless you run high rpm there is not much gain...if it is a diesel? some experts say that the k & n does not filter well enough...tests on gm diesels show no gains over the factory eq...do more research.and learn...hope this helps...joncar...

Several months back Hot Rod Mag. did a comparison test on several different air filters which included the K&N filter. They tested for particulate matter filtering as well as horsepower/torque increase at various RPM levels. The K&N filter did deliver horsepower/torque in the top end RPM range but at real world levels proved no more beneficial than any of the others, in fact it actually had less filtering ability.
Any one interested in reading the article for there self can go to;

Amsoil's Ea Filters will flow about the same amount of air as a K&N but will remove 5 times more dust that a regular celluose and 50 times more dust than wet gause (K&N) JIM

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to put the money to a better use. Bought a cover for my slideout!

I installed the complete Banks system on my 96 460 ford, and found an increase in both horsepower and torque. I average about 7 to 7 1/2 mpg now as compared to 6 to just about 6 1/2 before. It doesn't bogg down on the hills as it used to, so I know it has more torque. The filter is cleaned with the K&N cleaner. More air into the engine, better fuel economy, more torque, and it runs better. Each to their own on some things. Like mine, and plan to put on on my pickup. I don't know just how much more power you can get with just the air cleaner, but the whole system is worth it.
