We've had a tent trailer since 1985. Dragged it all over. Looking to get a more self contained leave at the drop of a hat unit. We've been looking at the Winnebago Itasca Cambria unit. Would like to sleep 6. It comes in a Mercedes diesil or Triton SD V10 engine.
1. What is the conventional wisdom regarding diesil vs gas motors.
2. What is your experience with the Winne. Are there more economical/reliable units?

To try and answer your questions, 1. Wisdom regarding diesel vs gas.
Diesel eng. will run many more miles and have more torque as well as a little better fuel mileage than a gas eng. but it will cost a few thousand dollars more to buy. Next item to think about, how many miles will you actually use the MH during the time period that you intend to use it?
You have to weigh cost vs use and justify to your own self.
2. Winne quality, they are a good average RV. They are not top end but they are not Forest River Junk quality either. For a unit that is going to be used but not abused they are right in line with all others of the same class. Next item to think about, the dealership that you buy from will make all the difference in your overall experience of how happy you are with the unit you buy. IF you buy from a good quality dealer that gets right on warranty work and looks after their customers, you will be happy with any unit you buy, if you buy from a second class dealer you will never really be happy with any thing you buy. (This is experience speaking, I used to be a dealer/service center/sales as well as a cg owner. Got smart and retired)
