We need to purchase a portable storage tank to use with our travel trailer. This will be the first time we have used this to discharge the black and grey tanks. Any suggestions on brands or tips for use would be greatly appreciated!

First you must remember that waste water weighs around 8 lbs to the gallon. The gallon capacity of tote that you purchase has to be transported to the dump station some how. If you get a large capacity tote on wheels you can tow it behind your vehicle to the dump site a few times before the cheap wheels on them start failing. (Some people are luckier that others on the life span of the wheels). If you get one with out wheels then you have to be able to lift it into your transport vehicle to haul to dump site. Now being you are looking at approx. 8 lbs to the gallon (8 lbs times 10 gallons = 80 lbs to lift into transport vehicle and also lift to unload  if you get a 15 gallon, "8 times 15 = 120 lbs" *oh my poor aching back*).

Features that I would look for; 1) standard 3" hose connection for filling as well as dumping. 2) a well constructed axel and pneumatic tires with a towing tongue that would attach to the trailer ball on vehicle. 3) small enough size wise to fit in storage compartment.

I am sure others will offer suggestion on different brands an sizes to get.

I myself do not like the ones with the two whells on the back. I have one that has wheels on the back and on the rear so I can pull it through the site like a wagon. Also as previous poster stated the wheels are not of the best quality and what I've seen some people do is replace them with pnumatic wheels from places like harbor freight. I believe you will find what ever tank you purchase you will have to make several trips to empty your holding tanks. I chose the one with wheels front and back cause many sites I can't my tow vehicle close to the drains and it is much easier on the back than ther other type.

I guess the first question I would ask is why? We have been camping for 35 years and have not, to this date, ever needed a tote. We have camped at CG's that do not have sewers and have not had a problem holding our waste-gray and black.

We can usually go eight days on our black water and if we are careful on how much gray water we use we can usually go three or four days.

If you have a large family and stay for weeks on end then I would suggest that you seek sites with sewers.

I have never seen one of the totes that worked after a few times and the answers you got about wheels is right on.

ENJOY!!
