Our kids are preteens. We want to keep RVing as a family as long as we can. Any suggestions?

I think keeping the kids interested in camping is driven by the activities you do while camping. Our 18 year old still likes to go along with us...as long as he can fish. If we're going to be hanging out and relaxing, he'd rather stay home.

We have been camping with our kids since they were little. Now, 16 and 19, both girls. We have planned a four day camping trip near the mountains this year. My 19 year old lives with roommates in a local apartment. She heard we were going camping, her sister and us, her mom and dad, and asked, " huh, dont I get to go anymore???" We assumed she had her own ideas of vacationing now, since she is "on her own". She made me laugh when I looked at her, she looked so sad. I told her of course you can go, I thought you didnt want to hang with us anymore? I guess I was wrong, she is going too:) As someone stated before, I guess it is how you make your camping trips as to whether your kids/teens want to go. Make it full of memories that will last forever!!!!!;)

One of our longer trips, 1.5 years, was with our 2 teenagers. Then ages 14-15. We home schooled during this period and used where ever we were camping as the basis of the lessons. History was in many places; Wash DC, Civil War battlefields, Jamestown, the Alamo and others, we took the to McDonald Observatory, and different museums, and had a fairly easy time with the home schooling. When we returned home for awhile, the local school system accepted the lesson plans we had recorded, and they advanced to their proper grade. keep good records if you plan on home schooling. Good luck and enjoy.

we have 3 teens, ages 13, 17 and 18. One thing we do to keep them interested and feel part of the planning is have them choose a campground they would like to visit. OF course not "TO" far away. They love to help set up the camper and build the fire. Our oldest likes to help grill. They def. like to hike so we always have to take a good hike. But we also let them explore and spend time with just the 3 of them. My 13 year old has Autism, so we have to bring his video game and handheld game to keep him occupied during the times when he is feeling in need of some time alone. He still likes to look for frogs or bugs and do some fishing.
I think keeping them involved and interested is the ticket.
Ours will probaly be camping with us for years to come. Especially the youngest.

Teens love camping with the family as much as much younger kids, next they will be married and wanting to take their spouses along with you.:)

When our kids were little we were traveling around Alaska with a bunch of racers and their kids. My kids grew up camping and love it still. Of course, both of the kids are now grown with kids of their own. Now when we all go camping there are 12 of us. Oh well, enjoy the kids while you can, the grandkids love camping as much as their parents did so guess we'll have company for a long time to come. Our oldest grand daughter just turned 17 and she can hardly wait til we get home to go with us Camping.....I love it.
